Where is Justin Anderson?
Could be a really nice pickup, good shooter. Can play SG-SF and I think he even played some point early in the season for Dallas.

Yeah I've watched more than a few Dallas games this year and I think he will be a good pick up too. One thing he does have is athleticism... he is going to be dunking on guys.

Re: Where is Justin Anderson?
We talked about this on the trade board a while back: there's a very good chance his shooting is fool's gold, and he's not going to be a real contributor without it. He only had one season in college in which he was a great shooter (his last season, the reason he was drafted in the 1st), and apart from that he's had two college seasons and two pro seasons of below average shooting numbers.
Not saying he's a lost cause or anything, just that his stock has definitely fallen since the draft last year. (Also, fwiw I've noticed that one of the #1 correlating things for busts in the NBA is unsustainably high 3pt/jump-shooting %s over the course of a single, final college season; ties together folks from Derrick Williams to Thomas Robinson to Ben McLemore).

Hes athletic as all hell. But below average NBA shooter, and wasnt getting a ton of minutes on a team that is just as bad and more injured than the Sixers.

Brings athleticism and high motor that we lacked on the wing since getting rid of KJ Mc daniels and Grant. Anderson is erry similiar to Miles Bridges . Very strong, explosive , decent handles and has a improving stroke from deep as a lefty. Anderson is definitely a NBA caliber wing who can play the 2/3. He is willing defender who likes to chase down blocks run the break and dunk on opponents. He is a good strong slasher and fearless shooter. Instantly our most strongest , athletic wing on the team.

Re: Where is Justin Anderson?
I'm just hoping that his good FT shooting is indicative that he's been running way below expectation on 3s so far in the NBA. 205 career attempts is not much and Covington this season is indicative that it's possible to shoot well below one's career average for an extended period of time. Early career Lowry is another example - he was 26.4% from 3 over his first 382 career attempts.
jonjames is a signature bet welcher.

Sounds like a KJ McDaniels, Evan Turner, Andre Iguoudala clone. Tons of heart, can't shoot a lick.

We'll have 48 minutes of competent wing defense each night at the SF position. Which is a pretty rare privilege.

Justin Anderson is 90th out of 100 players in DRPM. For comparison Stauskas is 59th.

We will need it because Embiid can't be counted on to stay healthy yet and, well, Okafor, so anyone who gets past the perimeter can waltz to the basket.

Yeah I like him, athletic, physical, brawler mentality, not afraid to mix it up with anyone in the league. Welcome J.A, hopefully you turn into Mario Elie.

Re: Where is Justin Anderson?
Dallas plays at a snails pace. Thats not very good in terms of fit with Anderson's skill set.
Ill be intrigued to see him playing in this system. Can see him making some highlight plays in the open floor. Our coaching staff has helped a few guys develop there shots/games....Hopefully this can translate w/ Anderson.

Re: Where is Justin Anderson?
From NBADraft.net:
Strengths: Smart player with a good basketball IQ ... Physical specimen (6-foot-6, 225-pound frame) ... NBA-ready body and good size ... Possesses elite athleticism and has good length (6’11 wingspan) ... Outstanding leaper ... Skilled and explosive wing player ... Does a little bit of everything ... Is tireless, a hard worker and has a high motor ... Versatile and well-rounded player (could play either SG or SF at the next level) ... Strong and powerful ... A slasher ... Capable of scoring the ball from the 3-point line, mid-range, and in the paint ... Improved drastically from the 3-point line this past season (29 percent as a sophomore and 45 percent as a junior) ... Scored very well in a low scoring offense ... Good catch and shooter ... Can space the floor ... Improving mid-range jumper ... Has good mechanics and elevation on his jumper ... Smooth and fluid release ... Generates most of his offensive opportunities within the flow of offense ... Has shown the ability to muscle his way to the rim and finish strong ... Absorbs body contact from defenders in the paint ... Can play above the rim ... More of a straight line drive and finisher ... Has a quick first step that allows him to effectively attack closeouts ... Can knock down clutch shots ... Strong with the ball in transition and can finish ... Runs well on fast breaks ... Unselfish teammate who is willing to pass ... Above average passer ... Best at passing when he finds teammates in transition by drawing defenders into the paint and passing the ball to open players at the basket ... He can pass the ball effectively around the perimeter, dish to teammates of the dribble, and make post-entry passes ... Stout defensive player who gives great effort ... Versatile defender ... Can guard multiple positions ... Has the strength to defend bigger players in the post ... Has the foot speed and quickness to defend quicker players on the perimeter ... Great lateral quickness ... Impressive shot blocker for his size (really good at chasing down blocks on the break) ... Upper body strength allows him to run through screens ... He can secure rebounds in traffic ... Can play the passing lanes effectively with his length ... Frequently rises above the rim for putback dunks ... Does not shy away from contact ... Can body up big men inside and outside the paint ...
Weaknesses: Jack of all trades, master of none. He’s good at many aspects of the game, but doesn’t excel in one particular area ... Ball-handling abilities can improve ... Lack of ball-handling skills limits his ability to create for himself on offense ... Does not engage his defender with advanced moves or fakes ... Relies on his teammates to get him open looks more than he should ... Has shown his ability to be a playmaker for his teammates, but needs to show that he can do it more often (averaged 1.8 assists per game during collegiate career) ... Needs to continue to work on developing consistency in his jumper. Somewhat unproven ... Lacks a soft touch around the rim ... Needs to work on dribble penetration and finishing at the rim with his right hand more ... Needs to develop a more consistent pull-up game ... Despite his athleticism and length, he hasn’t put up the kind of rebounding numbers one would expect ... Does not get to the free throw line as much ... Sometimes forces up contested or bad shots around the basket ... Would rather use his athleticism to go up for boards than getting in position and boxing out ... Can sometimes get caught sleeping on defense, resulting in him being out of position...

I know Anderson was a good defensive player on college but why has it not translated in the NBA? How can Srauskas have a better DBPM than Anderson and Anderson near the bottom? I don't like that.

Statistical anomaly. Anderson posted a 1.3 DBPM as a rookie. He's very positionally sound, defensively.

Andersons defensive in college had a lot to do with that system they run at Virginia. Tony Bennett's defense makes everyone in that system look like a good defender.

Ehh, it didn't help Malcolm Brogdon look like a good defender. He was pretty poor at Virginia and he sucks in the NBA on that end. I think Anderson is legitimately sound on the defensive end.

Re: Where is Justin Anderson?
Hasn't really got much of a shot since they signed Harrison Barnes. I guess the best hope he becomes the next Harrison Barnes but inorder to do that he needs to be a better spot up shooter.
