It will only help to expand viewership of the sport and bring in more fans. But, it could have been introduced a long time ago. :(

Money talks, as the salary cap goes up so will the quality of play.

I have no doubt in my mind that over the next 20 years MLS will creep up the list to be one of the top leagues in the world. We may never be as big as the top 3 but we'll sit somewhere in the top 5 to 10 as the salary cap rises.

America has never been known to accept a lesser league in any sport, and MLS will strive to do the same as the NBA, NFL, MLB and so on.

if it was as simple as throwing money, qatar and emirates would have top notch leagues by now. unlike basketball, baseball or football, america is not building this league based on homegrown talent. they depend on talent coming from overseas and that's a problem since most in their prime not willing to leave europe.

If it were just a matter of money and the CL/EL didn't matter, then the qatari and chinese leagues would get more than the washed up players that don't feel like moving to america. They already top the wages of europe's top leagues. But players know that playing on the big stage is how to make their name known, how to better their career, and how to represent their nations in the big tourneys.

That Argentina Bolivia game was tough to watch. Bolivia are not at any type of competitive level.

Never really got a good view of the first one but that looked like a flop and weak for a yellow if there was contact to me. The second was definitely a yellow even a borderline red since he came from behind and kicked him in the knee without even getting close to the ball.

my guess is that he stomped on the first guys foot
the ref looked like only a few yards away too

I can't really judge the first one but I would've given him a straight red for that second challenge alone.

If you are gonna make a tactical foul grab him on his jersey or something but don't kick another guys knees without any chance of getting the ball.

Whether it was a foul or not on the first challenge....sending him off definitely was the right decision.

**** Cucu. He always wants to be the center of attention.

I'd say that's fair. I see that a lot where someone commits a yellow card offense and then they go nuts for the rest of the play, knowing few refs have the gall to give out two yellows. Honestly if you're playing football like that you have no place in the modern game, go sip pina coladas with Roy Keane or something.

The GOAT Football Player

Post#540 » by truth18 » Thu Sep 10, 2015 8:56 pm

Who do you guys rank number one overall in the history of the game? Can even be a keeper if you wish (Yashin for example, I guess Buffon maybe), but please post your reasoning in addition to your choice. Only ten options for the poll, not my fault, I would have listed more if it was possible.

Image

Everyone will disagree,
Spoiler:
because he's not actually the GOAT if I have to take a disconnected stance, but that's not the point of this thread, there probably is no clear choice GOAT in football
but he's my choice. The guy was just **** ridiculously talented. He is hands down the best pure striker to have played the game. His peak years were just insane, if he was healthy, he would just score constantly. He was also a complete player who could affect the game in other ways, great football mind. His dribbling skills were also exceptional, he arguably set the trend of fancy dribbling moves in the modern game. Everyone that played against him was legitimately scared when it came to defending him. With his elite athleticism during his healthy years, he could practically do anything on offense. Without a doubt, my clear number one choice. Basing my reasoning on peak play, impact on the culture of the game, ability to affect the game in a multitude of ways on offense, position versatility, fitness levels, leadership and international performance in important games.

And no Massi, this is not going to turn into a Messi is overrated thread. He just isn't.

Spoiler:
It proabably will :banghead:

Also, not interested in top three or top ten. Choose your number one only. If you think two or three guys are even at number one, that's fine too.

Let's do it.
YOU LOSE
