Looking at the highlights, it looks like France may be the luckiest team in the tournament so far. They should have had a player sent off in pretty much every game.

Heard he broke his ankle. He just ended or at least limited Ogenyi Onazi's career.

I watched it and he didn't mean to injure him, but still, that is just yellow?

Tough call. He didn't do the sort of things that usually bring red - he didn't come in from behind or leave his feet or make a two-footed challenge or bring his studs up above the shin guard. The yellow in real time seemed appropriate since it was clearly a late challenge, but it didn't look malicious. With the advantage of replay and knowing the damage it did, you could easily say red was deserved, but in the moment it didn't look that reckless. It looked like Onazi just got his foot stepped on, which happens a lot.

If his ankle is broken, you also have to wonder about the Nigeria medical staff, who were rolling his ankle around as if they were testing for a sprain.

The American ref went easy on the whistle both ways, as can be expected I guess since team USA plays rather aggressively. France benefited a bit more since we played more aggressively, but Nigeria were physical as well and if it was another ref there woulda likely been more yellows on both sides, and coulda been a red for Matuidi.
