Yeah what in the world is going on there?!

First the totally out of bounds kiss. Team supports her with strong 'won't play' declaration:

Then the defiant public 'won't quit' declaration:

Blaming the player, accusing her of lying about the incident foisted on her (!):

Finally getting suspended.

And now the roll continues:

Oof.

Really feels like a watershed moment for revealing a lot more than just this. If he was that unaware and that defiant publicly, one wonders what was going on out of public eye. Now all eyes are on it. Good.

Good to see momentum growing and it including more men in the sport speaking out.

This is a watershed moment in global football, culminating in the unmasking of the extremely paternalistic, macho, and arrogant side of Spanish football. Even my favorite team Real Madrid's coach has denounced this terrible and ultimately tragic behavior. After all, it was the ladies' moment to shine, not his. But what really shook society's opinion was when he grabbed his junk with the Queen and her daughter right beside him. He needs to go period.

Rubiales has always been a suspect character. Some might remember his actions revealed in the "Supercopa Files" leaks last year, where he and Gerard Pique colluded to get the Spanish Supercopa played in Saudi Arabia with bizarre penalties for non-Real or Barca clubs (presumably with the goal of lining their pockets), and then got angry and threatened legal action against those that published or referenced this deal.

While not as old as his peers, in mentality he's another dinosaur at the top of the footballing pyramid, and his finger pointing speaks volumes about the lack of accountability in football's governing bodies. What a dumb, avoidable thing he did here. Way to sour what should have been a great moment for Spanish football.

He didn't just become this man. He should never have been in this position and certainly should've been removed earlier.

It's not one man, the whole of Spanish football, European football, world football is misogynistic. tbh the world is misogynistic but we'll just sack this guy and carry on.

This post-World Cup kiss-kerfuffle is such a needless media spectacle.

Two adults crossed lips in a moment of euphoric celebration. If boundaries were crossed, an apology should suffice, and sober heads should be able to deal with whatever awkwardness remains. But no. Both sides have gone on to make public statements that fan the flames of a two-sided witch hunt. Rubiales' over the top statements are particularly ridiculous.

I find all of this to be so needless.

In reality, Rubiales is nothing compared to lifelong unapologetic ladies man and Benfica's former director of communication, João Malheiro.

This was at his club-sponsored birthday party, many years ago, when he was still working for Benfica. He often stated: "I've only been faithful to two things in my life: SG Filtro (a Portuguese cigarette brand) and Benfica.

Portuguese football is full of these kind of men, but none top FC Porto's lifetime supreme leader, Pinto da Costa.

At the ripe old age of 85, he's just very recently married his 5th wife.

Image

It didn't work out with his 4th wife.

Image

The 2nd lady in his life, who he later married as his 3rd wife, was his personal secretary with whom he had an affair with while married to his 1st wife.
Image

Oh but his 2nd wife... she was quite the character. Carolina Salgado.
Image

She essentially was promoted from call girl to wife (Pinto da Costa has consistently hired escorts to get favourable calls from referees throughout his nearly 5 decade long presidency of FC Porto).

They eventually broke up, and she wrote a tell all book ratting him out. Police picked up on it, investigated, and caught him red handed via wiretapping, referring to escorts as (fruit, candy, and coffee with milk). he was initially suspended for two years and fined 10k euros. A friendly judge (Pinto da Costa has also used the club support group "Super Dragões" as his personal enforcer group, to intimidate and control the referee development pipeline and judicial system) cleared him of all charges on some procedural BS.

Portuguese soccer clubs are associations. presidents are elected by club members, but it's clear that neither FC Porto's voting associates, nor the Portuguese justice system, nor UEFA, nor FIFA will ever do anything about this absolute mafioso.

It's up to biology.

He turns 86 next December. I have his eulogy in draft. I hate this man.

Very odd to "both sides" a pretty clear situation.

Generally people don't like it when their bosses lift them up and kiss them. We have laws to try and avoid these things. People also don't like when their boss asks you to lie on their behalf, and upon refusing, go ahead and release a statement putting words in your mouth. And then your boss spends the rest of their time acting like a manic weirdo, but of course never offering a simple apology.
It's time for 5 refs.

That there are two sides to the issue, irrespective of their unequal merits, isn't at all odd. It became so by design. For instance, Rubiales' surreal public statement on this issue was met with an immediate ovation and thunderous applause. Instead of resolving the impromptu transgression directly, he's made an appeal to the horde. I call it a horde because I've seen public calls for Hermoso to be charged with crimes and jailed. Absolutely bonkers.

This is just an insane level of coverage, controversy, reaction, and overreaction, over a needless, immature, and untimely act.

This should not rank anywhere on anyone's radar of concern over public affairs and current events, yet here we are, triggered like moths to a flame

These guys at the top of football clubs, associations, leagues, they’re all independently wealthy before they get these posts?

So they’re used to getting their way, like they own women who work for them or are below in the org chart?

I’m guessing #MeToo wasn’t that big in Spain or some some of these fossilized entities like football club leadership and sports leaders in general.

Blatter and Ecclestone were thE most high profile villains, known mostly for corruption but also the IOC stooges.

They’re also probably big time sexual harassers — or look at Giuliani as another example.

But they probably get a fair number of women who are drawn to rich ****, the groupies and gold diggers — maybe more than women willing to stand up to power.

He should never have been in a position to resign. He should've been fired for misconduct already. Poor show by the spanish FA
