Dragic/Frye are 2nd duo in ORTG

Post#1 » by rsavaj » Tue Dec 3, 2013 5:23 pm

Thought this was a crazy stat

John Schuhmann of NBA.com points out that the Suns average 114.2 points per 100 possessions when Dragic and Frye are on the court together. All you really need to know about that number is that only one NBA duo that has played at least 300 minutes together has been better this season.

And that would be the Splish-Splash combo of Golden State’s Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Maybe Dragic and Frye need a catchy, kitschy nickname.

Frye has always been responsible for great ORTG numbers. Glad to see him back strong.

Stretch 4's are useful.

...annnd it helps that they've had chemistry from the WCF team.

The best thing about Frye, though, is we can use him as a stretch 5.

I looked it up: out of Suns units that have played at least 15 minutes so far this season, the top 5 in overall net rating all have a stretch 5 (mostly Frye, but also true small-ball with the Morrises at 4 and 5).

I also read somewhere recently (I think Kevin Pelton) that Dragic is in the top two in PPP on the pick and roll. He might be first but it read something like "Monta Ellis is 3rd in the league on PPP in the pick and roll, behind only Wade and Dragic."

Here it is
And including passes, just two players with at least 100 pick-and-roll plays (Goran Dragic and Dwyane Wade) have produced more points per play than Ellis.

I'd like to see the advanced stats of Dragic, he's hardly mentioned on the general board for a team floating around .500.

Here is his shot chart...it's interesting the outside shot he takes the most is the one he is the worst at. But from most all other spots he shoots really well.
