Post quality will improve without changing anything. The Morrii have waded away all interest in this team. Now only fans that care are floating around.

It's going to take a bit of magic by McD to get this franchise interesting again. Then we can worry about the casual fans.

This is partially true, but when going through a rebuild and having roster shuffling and injuries, there is a lot of over the top complaining which can drive away quality posters as well.

Though I imagine optimism will grow as the draft nears and hopefully during the draft and free agency.

Yeah I am always hopeful things will turn around in the offseason. As a group we need to encourage and applaud posts that are well formed and supported by facts and other data. Last season there was way too much I feel or I think or I hate posting going on. We have still have a lot of good things going on this team

1) Alex Len
2) TJ Warren / Archie Goodwin
3) Bogdan Bogdanovic
4) Miami picks
5) Wright and Knight free agency
6) Good trade pieces (Bledsoe, Tucker, maybe Morri)

Separating the draft into a live thread and a post draft analysis thread might help. Encourage more thoughtful posts after the draft and leave all the impulsive short stuff in its own thread (the live thread) so it doesn't overflow (keeping both open at the same time). Just an idea.

I would also like to remind everyone of the forum rules, and the reasons the forums are here...from Howard Mass' Forum Rules post

We appreciate users who are willing to help us by pointing out users who are violating our rules.

The best way to do this is by hitting the ! On the offending post and The Moderators will deal with it.

The only thing we ask is users not act as Moderators and tell a user to stop doing that. While we appreciate the thought, it makes it harder for The Moderators on that forum to enforce policy.

6. If your thread has been locked, merged or removed please do not start up another thread asking for an explanation.

If you have a question about the status of a thread, please contact the moderator of the forum by private message.

Any user who calls out a Moderator for locking their thread will automatically be warned or temporally suspended.

The use of inline () image tags pointing to data stored on third party systems for which the user has not received permission to link to may be removed.

10. Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing".

That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned.

11. Members should use an appropriate, descriptive title when posting a new topic.

Examples of bad titles include; "Huge Trade!", "Look Here!", "Check this out!", etc.

12. DO NOT SPAM.

Users posting spam will be banned and their post removed.

13. The administrators and moderators reserve the right to edit or remove any post at any time.

The above forum rules where applicable also apply to private messaging. Abuse of the private messaging system may lead to warnings (as above).

Posting News Articles

As stated in the above forum rules, users shall not upload, post or otherwise make available on RealGM.com any material protected by copyright, trademark, or other proprietary right. Users shall be solely liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of copyrights, proprietary rights, or any other harm resulting from such a submission. In simpler terms, no Insider or similar articles from subscription services can be posted. Newspapers, magazines and other online news articles are allowed.

If you wish to quote from a news article please follow these guidelines:

- Quotes can be no longer than 3 paragraphs from any source.

- The author of the material should be given credit.

- A link to the articles source MUST be present in your post.

Members who knowingly post fake or fraudulent news articles with the intention of disrupting the flow of dialogue in a forum will be warned.

3) Signatures

Signatures may contain up to five lines of text (of small or normal size) or one image, valid combinations include; a single image of no more than 90px high and 550px wide in size. Signatures containing an image this large may also include one line of small size text. Signatures containing an image of 60px high may include up to three lines of small size text or two lines of normal size text. Images of 15px height or less may allow up to four lines of normal size text or four lines of small size text.

- Text sizes should be between 9 and 12 (small and normal).

- Text in signatures is subject to the same conditions as posts with respect decency, warez, emoticons, and so forth.

- Links in signatures are permitted. Linked sites may be commercial in nature. You may not link to warez, porn or political, racist or other similar hate sites. Links are included in signature size limits.

- Users abusing these rules will be warned and/or may lose their signature privileges.

4) Avatars

Users are permitted to link to a picture for use as an avatar. User defined avatars are to be no larger than 80 pixels square, contain no image which attempts to portray the user as having an official status here (e.g. mimicking ranks or copying avatars of Moderators), may not exceed 35KB in file size and have a consistently high availability (i.e. links to images on slow servers or those prone to failure may be removed).

- Avatars are subject to the same conditions as posts with respect to decency, and so forth.

- Users abusing these rules will be warned and/or may lose their avatar privileges

5) Warnings, Suspensions and Bans

RealGM operates a three strike policy.

Warning #1: PM or Public Warning
Warning #2 PM or Public Warning
Warning #3 Three-Day Suspension
Warning #4 Seven-Day Suspension
Warning #5 Full Ban From RealGM.

There are some exceptions to these rules.

Individual Board Bans: Administrators may choose to ban a user from a particular forum in place of the above action. This will be done only for users who The administrators feel has value to a particular forum. It will be done rarely and on a case by case basis.

General NBA Discussion Forum: Our General NBA Discussion has a different policy than the rest of our forums. For more information, please visit our General NBA Discussion Forum Thread on the rules for that forum.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1201431

The RealGM Nuclear Option: If an Administrator feels that a user has come to our forums to either create havoc or seems to have no intention of being a productive member, they have the right to outright ban the user. Moderators have the ability to request to an Administrator that this action be brought against a user.

Other exceptions

- Arguing with moderators after having received a warning will lead to an immediate additional warning. Should this exceed three strikes a temporary ban will be put in place as above.

- Users who feel they have been unfairly warned are welcome to contact Administrator Howard Mass. If they feel you were treated badly they may remove a warning. His decision is final. Contacting Administrators over warning matters should be done so as a very last resort ... Administrators do not want to be bothered unless vital.

- Any attempt to circumvent a temporary ban will lead to that ban being made permanent.

Circumvention includes re-registering under a non-banned username, changing IP addresses to evade an IP ban, registering a new email account to evade an email ban. Circumvention also includes posting as an anonymous user.

- Exception to the three strike rule applies when users contact team members personally (via any method) and post insulting, indecent or vulgar material.

Such users may be subject to an immediate permanent ban.

- Permanent bans are a last resort

and thought is given before implementing them, but if the situation warrants it an immediate ban may be given without warning. While RealGM may consider lifting permanent bans from time to time this is a rare occurrence.

Board Crackdowns

If necessary, The Administrators will put in place special temporary rules to on a specific forum if they feel things need to get back in order.

General NBA Discussion Forum Policy

As mentioned above, Our General NBA Discussion Forum has a different policy than the rest of the forum. For more information, please visit the policy thread our General NBA Discussion Forum.

Terms of Use

All members of the RealGM forums should keep in mind that the forum rules also adopt all of the Terms of Use, which govern any and all usage by visitors to RealGM.com, and you can read these Terms of Use here: http://basketball.realgm.com/info/terms_of_use.

Phoenix Suns are like your parents, do not criticise them if you truely love them or you are ungrateful.

Fine to criticize them at times...I have criticized them plenty...why take Len over McLemore? I was wrong there. Why take Ennis over Hood? Hated the way last season played out and that we added IT and pissed off Dragic to where we had to trade him (though I liked what we got for him), hated the Porter hiring and coaching. Hated Lance Blanks. Hated hanging on to old guys for too long to try and compete. Hated the signings/trades for Childress, Warrick, Turkoglu, hated trading the pick that could have been Deng or Iguodala, etc.

The actions taken right after Amare left were extremely awful...FAR moreso than what is occurring now. Then Beasley, trying to get Gordon, Shannon Brown, etc...yuck.

I complained about such things but not over and over and over in every thread derailing discussion, etc.

This is about the first time I've been excited about some players since 2010....and some of our young players since LONG before then. I don't expect them to play a ton immediately. I'd like them to, but constantly whining about it isn't going to be meaningful contribution or start any new type of discussion.

I just wanted to point out the rules that are not being followed, as it has been pointed out to me.

End of last year people stopped making game threads as people lost interest.

If there's not alot to look forward to, it's going to be really quiet if you can't discuss ways to improve.

In the off-season the most talked about player was Frank Kaminsky, I'm still not sure why.

But we want to ban trade discussion about trying to get a championship calibre player like Paul George or Demarcus Cousins?

Here's the best idea to improve the quality of the posts:

Improve the quality of play on the basketball court.

When there's no quality in the play on the court, nobody should expect any quality in the posts on the forum either.

Quality posts can be made regardless of situation. Yes, when the team sucks or struggles, fewer posters will be around. If, because the team plays badly, that means you want to make crappy posts, then that is your choice. Hopefully others make other posts. They don't have to be positive about the team, but it would be nice if they were a bit intuitive.

The quality of a post is not directly related to the subject matter of the post. So two posts can have the same content matter but the quality of the post could be polar opposites.

Criticism of basketball plays could be done so with a "Boo this team sucks!" comment or it could be done with stats, identifying strengths and weaknesses and/or suggestions on improvement. Your choice of approach is what determines whether the post is quality or not.

Actually, his picture is Alvin Adams, the founder of the Adams company. You're thinking he is Alvan Adams, the Suns legend, which he is not.

IMO there is no way to increase the quality of posts here. MOST (at least 3/4) of the post here are negative. I laugh sometimes when i read through the game threads. Threads starts with "this is must win". Game starts, and post get progressively worse....even if we are winning. "Why is ___ even on this team" or "why isnt ____ playing? ____ can't shoot/rebound/pass worth a damn." Then it becomes "How are we even winning because ____ and ___ cant do anything" OR "We are losing because ___ and ___ and ___ cant shoot/rebound/guard."

Most of the posters here would rather be either the GM or coach of this team, rather than being a fan of whatever this team is. Yeah, we arent contenders, and yeah a lot of the times we arent going in the direction that the fans want....but this team is what it is.....a .500 team right now.

IMO there is plenty to be excited about. Bledsoe is a boss. Warren will be a star. Booker, in a couple of years, will be a stud. We have a bunch of potentially good picks. and we arent a BAD team. We have flaws, but if you didnt know our record and just went by what most of the posters are saying, you'd think we were -10/0.

Most everyone here has lost their patience, and the ONLY thing acceptable is WINNING and championship. Making the playoffs means nothing. Winning a first round matchup means nothing. Getting to the WCF means NOTHING. The finals mean nothing unless we win it all.

Hell, beating the Clips the other night just proves it all. Clips were without Paul/Reddick......and after reading that game thread this is what i took out of it: "We only won because their starting back court was injured, and Blake got ejected.....so this win doesnt even count." We could have won by 80, and people would say it doesnt matter, and we should have won by 81.

Yeah, there are quite a few things that this team could have done/could be doing better. Despite that, i'm still a fan. But here, the sheer negativity throughout this place has over-run the fun in watching this team. And it has driven those that enjoy talking about the suns away. Now, what we have is garbage after garbage, and quite frankly.....(what feels like, but may not exist) a mod group that would rather joke about the negativity instead of instill a little positive vibe.

Mods....like it or not, you are now kind of like managers of employees who dislike the company they work for. The posters here spew the things they hate, and instead of trying to change their attitude....there are times when it seems like they go "yeah, your right LOLZZZZ." Perfect example.....MatiasPW genuinely starts a thread to address the quality of posts here. THE FIRST post is a mod mocking it. Kerrsed....i love your humor, but stuff like that just instills the idea of "why the F do i even come here?" Yeah, I KNOW its a joke....but people are easily influenced. and when they see things like this, a bet there are more than a few that say to themselves "mods dont take this place seriously, so why should i?"

It was a joke (Pretty funny i might add), and reading the posts that came after it, i dont see any way that my joke post influenced anyone to say anything that would be considered as a bad quality post. Take a good look at the 1st page of this thread again. There was only 1 post (besides mine) that wasnt a solid post talking about the discussion at hand, and that post was a normal everyday grumpy post.

I stand by my post that i made back in January when this thread was created:

Kerrsed wrote:We still have some excellent posters! The issue is the team. When the team sucks, people tend to post less or take a step back from the game. When we start winning, they come back. Im not calling them "Bandwagon Fans", but there is a lot of heartache watching your team crumble when you are so passionate about them. Go back 5 or 6 pages in the Gamethread. I believe we had 2 posters point that out and say that they refuse to watch or post until the team changes.

There are alot of different reasons as to why people stop/take a break from posting.

Good and bad posters leave all the time. Some come back, others dont. Some go to a few different forums just to see the same problems exist there as well. Some just dont value the team/sport as highly as they once did. When the team under-preforms or plays bad, posters let their frustrations out. They are the ones that stick out and are heard more.

Its like when reading reviews for products on Amazon or Newegg, or games on steam. No matter what, you will always have more reviews bashing than supporting due to the fact that if someone has an issue, it pisses them off to a point where they feel the need to speak out and say something more so than if someone is perfectly happy with their product. In this case the Suns are the product and we are the customers. When things are going hunkey-dorey and people are satisfied they post less. People are more cheerful and pleasant, but once things start to go downhill, they get angry and feel other must hear and feel what they have to say about the product. Thus the reason the quality of posts dip down.

If people truly feel the quality of posts here is so poor, try checking out the ESPN forums. Many of our members have come here from there because of how bad it is and how piss-poor things are managed over there.

Precisely what I was telling bw a couple days ago as well.

An example of this can be the current Lakers forum. Its still pretty active but its WAAAAYYY less active than it was back when they were contenders every year. Is it because of all the "negativity"? No its because they suck.

The "ignore" function of this forum isn't used enough. If posters find certain posters annoying, they ought to just put them on ignore. If they get quoted, ignore it when you read their username.

Great point about the ESPN forums. I would argue that all other Suns forum are like that. This forum is by far the most active Suns forum on the internet. So if people aren't coming here because of "negativity" then they ain't going anywhere else either.

Well said Kerrsed.
