See you Latter Kevin Young - hope your ISO-Ball offense works for you at BYU.

Not sure Kevin Young leaves the Suns if he thinks we're playing the way he wants us to play, but I could be mistaken.
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Or KY realized the gig is up her in Phoenix. His portrayal as an offensive genius isn't fooling us Suns fans anymore. Time to hitch up the wagon and head to Salt Lake.

Will be interesting to see how losing Young impacts us. He's had a good reputation around the league despite the heat from Suns fans this year for our team not being the offensive juggernaut many expected, though it's kind of funny that our ORTG this season is still the highest in team history this season.

Our offense definitely stagnates, but it's naive to think that Young is telling our plays to stand around and watch KD/Book/Beal isolate instead of move the ball. Every coach in the world wants to see the ball moving and leading to open shots. Hope we have a good replacement in mind.

I guess we'll see when he's at BYU whether our subpar offense was more because of Vogel's implementation/integration into his system or whether KY is smoke and mirrors

I always thought he stuck around mostly because he got an offer he couldn't refuse. He may be moving on just because we're not going to give him a HC role here and it's just time to move on.

Don’t remember anyone having a problem with young untill KD came to town. Interesting coincidence.

I think if you sort that by Rel ORTG (relative to the league and where the league is at the time), it gives you a much better order. Just look at the top 14 teams....and especially the ones in the top half of those.....23-24 is like 23rd best.

It's interesting, noting the 64 win team was actually 17th in offense, but I noticed the relative defensive # looked really good so I sorted all Suns teams by defense and that 64 win team, by that relative defense to the league metric, was our 4th best defensive team ever, with a solid offense too.

I don't think having/not having Young will make one iota of difference. OK, maybe one iota.

We don't know how much control Young had with the Suns, plus you had 3 ISO heavy players trying to share the ball at the same time which led to some ugly basketball so it could be the players not buying in to his offensive schemes.

Avocado blew this game for the Pels. I was about to get roasted by guys here and post a Booker or KD for Zion+Herb Jones trade suggestion lol.

Got carried away.

He was also a big part in getting the team into striking distance

Meh.

He's 3rd behind both my guy Z and Trey Murphy III. But either way, him blowing that layup and turning it into an LAL shot.....was massive. Single handily lost the game imo. He had Reeves beat. Just go underhanded for the layup or switch hands. Don't even the shot, just get the foul and hit the FTs.

Zion is an animal though. Too bad he got hurt. He's showing why he can be the face of the league after Bron hangs it up........
Spoiler:
and if he goes to another team

I'm glad the Lakers are the Nuggs problem. I could see it going 6 games. Hell the free throw differential alone. Then you still got LBJ and AD.

These Pelicans were an easy sweep.

Who knows what would have happened if Zion didn't get injured. Lakers luck intervened when the Pels were about to take over.

Zion isn't gonna be the face of the league. He had his opportunity earlier in the career but between long periods of unavailability, the off court stuff and playing on a very small market team that doesn't play the most exciting style, I think his time has come and gone.

This is his healthiest, most available season and you'd think he be on people's minds more but dude went from 4.2m all star fan votes last season to 300k and didn't make an all star. Potential faces of the league don't miss all stars selections when healthy. That just tells me people aren't seeing him the same way anymore

Ah good times, I remember when this board was saying the pelicans were going to be the face of the western conference within a year after we beat them. (CJ always chokes)

Again, Kevin Young was fine pre KD trade. Everyone liked him, ball was moving with the 2021 team etc. Simple common denominator(s) KD is an ISO guy, Book is an ISO guy, Beal is less of an ISO guy but still an ISO guy, KD doesn't move w/o the ball, Cam and Mikal were very active without the ball. Doesn't seem like a Kevin Young problem when you have 3 ball stoppers on the floor.
