Will there be a Gracie Breakdown of the main event?

Also, is some BJJ schools not liking to train leg locks still a thing?

It's kind of a thing but it had zero to do with the result from last night if that is why you are asking. That is more a sport bjj thing...and Ryron is anything but. Plus the highest level guys like that aren't really deficient anyway.

Barnett was just lightning quick and is strong enough to torque it to the point of damage in an instant. Props to Ryron for standing with Josh and props to Josh for going for it, he could have ended up on bottom there which would probably have left him being surfed on for awhile.

Just saw some of it. Weird without a crowd. And the announcing was bad - rambling on about whatever instead of what was going on. Barnett was so much bigger it was comical.

I think Ryron would have been very happy with a draw (hard to blame him), and so standing and hand fighting for a while was fine with him. That said, I'd have to watch that takedown again, looked like he may have gone down a bit hard...

Yea but he wasn't just playing patty cake and backing away, he was shooting under hooks and head grabbing. I have to rewatch but I also think he attempted kouchi gari at least once. I'm 100% sure Barnett was surprised with how much trouble he had securing a takedown.

edit: Just watched, questionable decision to put a bunch of heavyweights on a round robin long match style tournament. The blonde dude from the second to third match has just the worst type of jiu jitsu imo. Get a sloppy takedown, sit in the guard with no pass attempts, don't pass or even try to pass unless your opponent throws up a submission and then just brute force your way out of that for a pass. They reguard, rinse, repeat.

Funny thing is the referee (Chris Haueter) could probably tap all of those guys...

Yea that dude is an OG. Where do you train? You randomly chime in to drop some knowledge and I refuse to believe you have this much random bjj knowledge as a casual mma fan.

Haha not training anymore. Used to train with Impact Jiu Jitsu out here in Oregon (head coach there is a Haueter black belt) until life got in the way...also did Judo for awhile at a local club. Hoping to start up again with all of this soon, whenever time permits.

Yea that makes sense. I feel like I randomly remember a Caique reference from you or something so I knew you had some experience. Get back on the mats brother.

I guess Roger just posted on facebook that we will be doing a super fight in bjj in July.

I wonder against who? Buchecha just got hurt at world's, Rodolfo is hurt too I believe. Bernardo Faria is coming off double gold at mundials this past weekend, that could be fun.

Roger isn't a world beater, but I have no idea why he was let go by the ufc for losing by decision to Tim Kennedy.

If anyone is into grappling at all, Eddie Bravo put all his submission only events on youtube. Its not the best of the best guys but the matches are tons of fun. Eddie is kind of a nut at times but he is an amazing marketer and realizes the long-term best thing he can do is release this stuff for free and get as many eyeballs on it as possible, build interest and maybe monetize in some way in the future. Just youtube "EBI" or Eddie Bravo Invitational.

Anyway, the next iteration will feature lots of big names. Tonon, Cummings, Geo return. Baret Yoshida. But the big news is Joao Miyao who has got to be the most successful guy they have gotten so far. Mundials silver medalist, ADCC bronze medalist in his early 20s. Guys like that start to give this tournament tons of credibility. Will be awesome to see him under a different ruleset.

Lombard gets choked out pretty quick here. Dude's wife screaming is insanely annoying btw, maybe watch on mute.

Didn't realize International Fight Week was a thing... it's great that UFC is partnering with amateur competitions (or at least not suing them for encroaching on their territory/instituting a ban on competing events ala WWE).
