I thought they'd go with "finished UFC title contender Alexander Gustafsson."

Just having the announcers recap Thomson's ufc run. Wow that was a tough one. 90% of media had him winning the Benson fight, loses. Half the media had him winning the Bobby Green fight, loses. And then he gets Tony Ferguson and loses a decision (relatively one-sided fight, granted).

At least they didn't advance Vassell as the rules could have allowed.

100% rooting for Tito here. Just because I'm the type of dude who likes to watch the world burn.

Are we sure he didn't straight armbar the free arm? That's actually probably a more common finish from that position than the choke. IDK how he tapped so fast to an inverted triangle. The camera angle isn't right to see the other arm.

Not for McGeary. He finished Anundson from the same position with the same move, and got Newton in it deep numerous times only for him to be saved by the bell or survive because he's super resilient and durable. It's McGeary's go to move from being side mounted, to just fish for that repeatedly. I just didn't think he'd pull it off or any sub from the bottom against Tito who has heavy top pressure and is sub savvy. First time Tito has been subbed since his second fight in MMA in '97, and I don't think that was truly from the bottom. I thought McGeary would have to revert back to his striking which used to be his bread and butter b4 he developed the funkiest offensive guard in MMA.

My reads were quite off tonight. I don't think the slippery canvas helped for the Vassell one. Vassell is trying for footwork and kicks, Mo to punch flat-footed. Then with Davis I don't know if I'm more surprised he got a ko or that Carmont got ko'ed from that punch. He looked out on the end of it. The mini tourney wasn't half bad. The rest of the main card was uninteresting to me outside a little of the spectacle, which did become old after a while.

I think he got the straight armbar. Can't find video evidence so far though. I can see Tito's right carotid not being cut off, plus choosing to tap with that hand would just make the choke tighter. Plus it was lightning fast.

The kickboxing portions were meh to me and dragged. It would have been better if they had actual good glory fighters in the ring imo, I mean they only had one legit glory fight right?

I thought Tito was saying to him he's never been caught with that, even in practice.

Here's the Anundson one, pal.

I wouldn't know them from Jo Blo (but I thought the HW fight was for the title). Even with the best, I probably would have fast-forwarded if there wasn't a quick ko. I have a short-attention span for non MMA combat sports. In my brain I just can't accept you're not allowed to take a fight to the ground. Just like in my brain I can't accept that a jj practitioner or wrestler can't strike, or a boxer can't kick or do just about anything else besides punch in one direction with big puffy gloves on. It seems so arbitrary and incomplete after watching MMA. I used to be able to enjoy boxing and occasionally kickboxing, but MMA really killed those sports for me. BJJ and wrestling are fun to do, but not to watch, IMO.

Thanks, its def possible you are right. But you can also see in that one that the guys shoulder is cutting off the farside carotid, which was not the case for Tito.
