287 - Alex has Izzy's number and Jorge's corpse fights again

Post#1 » by Susan » Fri Apr 7, 2023 2:14 pm

Gotta think Alex beats Izzy again. He's just physically stronger and when he turns it up, Izzy wilts.

Burns makes easy work of Jorge.

Rest of the card is ho-hum.

If Jorge has anything left he matches up well with Gilbert. His takedowns aren’t great and he likes to bang. Where they are in their careers burns should run through him though.

I actually think Izzy will win. He’s a better fighter but Alex has that power and mental edge. Peak stupidity from me expecting a different outcome but I think he’ll win.
Some Of Alex’s trolling of Izzy is top notch though. Dude is funny

Yanez and font FOTN. Kelvin and Curtis should be fun too

Holland one of the more likeable guys in the organisation. Hoping he wins and Jorge loses and then Kevin gets to spank his dumb ass.

Leech and chiesa would have been cool too. Leech got a spinal injury though. Hope he recovers well, he’s the man.

As is Barnett who also had his fight cancelled

I didn't even know Curtis vs. Castelum was on the card. Sweet fight to lead us into the main card.

By my eye, the guy Rosa is fighting looked smaller than him at the press conference faceoff, yet he's the only guy on the card who didn't make weight. Weird that Rosa is getting jobbers on main cards already.

Yanez and Font is guaranteed to be great. Holland vs. the wild, charismatic Ponzinibbio should be fun at least.

Last PPV after Colby was said to be given the title shot, I laid out that they should wait for Burns to run through Jorge and then go from there. I still think Gilbert wins, but it's gotten closer in my mind, because Jorge likely won't gas out in only three rounds, and I'm not sure Burns is the type to shoot for takedowns over and over like Colby to control the fight. So Burns vs. Masvidal in standup-only is a lot closer. I think there is no finish in this fight. I do think Gilbert wins.

I was at MSG for Izzy vs. Periera 1. Amazing card. This was a great fight. Pereira is super hittable so long as you get through the force field that is his left knee, left hook, and leg and body kicks. Easier said than done, but Izzy did so for 20 minutes, sprinkling in some of the worst grappling in MMA title fight history by both sides that we've ever seen. Izzy has a speed/fluidity edge. Periera's movements look like if you go to one of those factories that make cars and they've got these giant machines that are so grooved to make explosive, precise movements that look like they defy physics.

Combining their MMA fight with their kickboxing bouts, Izzy is clearly the superior fighter from a skill standpoint. Periera's mental toughness, ability to match or exceed Izzy's length, and nuclear power evens things out. Not predicting this one.
Pay no mind to the battles you've won
It'll take a lot more than rage and muscle
Open your heart and hands, my son
Or you'll never make it over the river

Yeah, I think Izzy gets this. Call me a fool. Pereira's technique is insane, fighting with his hands hanging down like that. Izzy will make the adjustments, he's not going in there without some additions to his game.

That said, obviously he's got to last 5. And AP will be confident and bringing it til the very last minute. That's going to be a tense final round from Izzy.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Izzy played possum and baited Pereira, you could call it as it happened.

Izzy confirms the possum act. Smart fighter but a very poor winner.

Like Izzy legit could have knocked out everyone he’s beaten. His team got him fighting too safe.

I don’t even like Izzy but the “sore winner” stuff is weird to me. These dudes fight in a cage for our entertainment, let them release some emotion lol. Especially after a W like that.

His opponent was up 3-0 on him including back to back vicious KO/TKOs across two sports. He lost his belt and had his legacy on the line, all against the same dude who had been his kryptonite from 6 years ago. He had his back against the wall about as badly as you could imagine, and responded with what will go down as one of the greatest KOs of all time. Like let’s not pretend we all wouldn’t be acting up in that moment lol.

Fast track Bo Nickal, has the smarts to beat him. Once it's on the ground, game over.

Izzy is trying to write this chapter as over since he finally got his win, I think it's kinda disrespectful to all Alex has done, and the UFC is very much on board with Izzy narrative, but it has to feel great to get the monkey off his back in brutal fashion. Love that Izzy takes on big challenges even when they don't favor in, and love how active he is. He's a little cringe, but he's a special talent and jumps into the fire, I can't ask for more as a fight fan.

Imagine watching Masvidal bootlick for a regime that would deport him and his family so fast if they could, lmao.
