UFC 297

Post#1 » by duppyy » Mon Jan 15, 2024 8:25 pm

Finally back in Toronto, however I wasn't going to pay up to $500 for nose bleeds so I'll be watching at home.

I'm only a 5 minute walk from the fighter hotel, was thinking of walking by and see if I can catch any of the fighters but its too damn cold lol.

Oh F*ck that's THIS Saturday gdi it is! you CAN ALWAYS get same day tickets the day of straight face value from ticket master.

OOF. OH NO the Raptors are in NY that same night! No, that's a no go if I go to the UFC live I miss the Raptors game.
Ill stay at home in my command center & watch the UFC, Leafs prolly play that night as well Raptors/Knicks & there's prolly NFL divisional round playoff action as well happening.

Who's gonna be champ after Sat, Strickland / Du Plessis or Bueno Silva / Pennington
Cheers

This card is so bad.

Interested in Allen vs the pedo. The rest of the card… meh

Also if you think Sean Strickland is cool you’re probably a massive loser.

The fight I’m looking forward to most is the Mike Mallot. It’s the people’s main event ;)

At the presser everyone cheered so loudly for Mallott, and for good reason, this is a great fight vs Magny. (Though I favor Magny to win I am rooting for Proper Mike)

Later, Raquel Pennington says, "I love you Canada!" and no one cheered

This is not a stacked card. UFC pandering to regional interests.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Reactions from the 3 fights I saw... busy day with an NFL watch party I attended...

Evolev v Allen
Tough fight either way, Both showed striking pedigree imo, but Movsar answered the call vs the big time opponent and he's really damn good, Allen put up a good fight but thought it was a fair scoring. I had never seen Movsar fight before so pretty good showing overall ? I was rooting Allen so kind of bummed of the result here. Idk though, movsar is probably a champion challenger within the year ?

Bueno Silva v Pennington
BuenoSilva gassed and was pretty ineffective striking, couldn't get her floor game going, and then was finished late. Overall.... Not a great fight. I thought the Brazilian would be better after her trash talk leading up to the fight. Raquel, who has seen a title fight before, pretty much showed she has better resolve, stamina, and will in the final 20 minutes of this fight to just be slightly better than the opponent. The cage saw more action than the fight...crowd boo'ed a lot, I don't respect booing for fighting because none of them have been in a fight like this **** b4, Pennington was solid in R3/4/5 and got a sub. She impressed me by toughing it out.

Du Plessis v Strickland
Great back and forth, thought Sean won the first and the 5th and lost the 2/3/4 on the TDs but he out-struck Dricus and both sustained major damage it seemed. Sean is a great defensive fighter with his shell but Du Plessis really made big moments count with TDs and willing himself to strike and force those TDs. Sean didn't impose his BJJ black belt at all and landed good shots, but not killing blows. Dricus I think is a deserved champion with his mixed strategy paying off and toughness. I don't like Sean but respect his fighting skill, so I'm happy to see 'And New' tonight.

Didn't see prelims at all ;)
Cheers
