Pistons fan - Draft Day Question

Postby Piston Pete on Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:18 pm

Assuming you guys take Drummond at #6....what would you give us for #9?

I figured you guys would want to trade up to #9 for Lillard - ahead of NO. After NO takes Davis #1, they will likely take Lillard if he's still on the board - but you guys also want him badly.

Just wondering what you'd offer to move up ahead of NO to #9.....

Or are you guys happy to stay at #11 and take Kendall Marshall or whoever else?

Meh.. possibly one of our 2nd rounders.. Personally I think I'd rather have the PG that would make Drummonds transition as easy as possible.. Marshall.

You won't get a proper answer from me because I'd rather Marshall than Lillard

We also don't have many assets at the moment.. Only players under contract are LA, Wes, Smith, Williams (2x) and Babbitt. We also have some 2nd rounders (40 and 41 I think) but I'm sure if they have any value in this deal
I'd say S Williams has negative to no value in this deal, E. Williams would be better off kept. Depending how badly we want Lillard, the only option would be Nolan/Babbitt and 11 for 9

Which is fine.

Part of this thread was to determine how you felt toward Lillard/Marshall - and if you'd want to move up, what you'd likely offer.

Getting Drummond and Lillard would be huge.

I'd offer the Blazers 2nd round picks (40 and 41) plus cash considerations. If those don't float the Pistons boat and they want a player of some sort, I'd say any of Shawne Williams, Nolan Smith, Luke Babbitt, Elliot Williams, Victor Claver or Joel Freeland would be open game.

Anything more than that and I think the Blazers just wait until 11 and take Marshall.

All this said, I'd question if Lillard would make it past the Raptors @ #8.

Out of curiosity who do you have Detroit wanting that they'd be comfortable trading down and still acquiring? Henson?

It's a fair question for Detroit is where I would go to if a trade up but
it's very possible New Orleans at 10 will pick another big to pair with
Davis. They might pick the big the Piston's would covet at 9.

At 11, I'd hope to get one of:

Henson
Leonard
Moultrie
Terrence Jones

I see at least two of them being there at #11. Personally, I was thinking about doing #9 and Villanueva for #11 and Shawne Williams.....or something similar.

Basically, I was looking to see what you guys would consider doing to get Lillard.

#11 and both 2nd round picks plus cash?

PS this is kinda my dream scenario. A Lillard and Drummond draft could be on par with Roy/ Aldridge.

I don't think we'd have interest in your 2nd rounders....

1) It would be like us offering #9 and both our 2nd rounders and cash to you guys for #6....
2) We already have a full roster set to return next season and won't have room for two more 2nd rounders.

You can have Babbitt and #11.

This is totally wrong. There's a distinct drop-off in talent after about the 6th or 7th pick in this draft. That talent drop-off is not there when going from #9 to #11. Players around 8-15 are all pretty equal from a potential standpoint when you're talking about the likes of Lamb, PJ3, Rivers, Leonard, Waiters, Marshall, Zeller, etc.

I'm not saying the Pistons should move down for the Blazers 2nd rounders, but the specific analogy you used there is unquestionably flawed.

Totally agree. If I'm the Blazers though, the team I look at trading with would be the Raptors. Then again, if Lillard has helped his value as much as has been reported, they might not be interested in trading down as they'd want him too.

I personally have no desire to move up to grab Lillard. I also wouldn't draft Drummond at 6.

I don't see any particular reason at this time to want to slide up two spots from #11 to #9. I'd do it if you had interest in taking some seconds, but I value the few guys we have on our roster that might be available(Babbit, EWilliams) for this type of move more than I would the extra two spots up in the draft.
