Trade Targets

Post#1 » by Butter » Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:28 pm

Olshey is reportedly interested in targeting veteran players with large contracts as trade options. They may not necessarily target a veteran center, but I think it's a good starting point.

Here are some centers who could be considered depending on the deal:

Player 2012/13 2013/14 2014/15 2015/16 2016/17

Robin Lopez $4,899,293 $5,119,761 $5,340,229

Jason Thompson $5,250,000 $5,643,750 $6,037,500 $6,431,250 $6,825,000

Spencer Hawes $6,500,000 $6,500,000

Marcin Gortat $7,258,960 $7,727,280

Kendrick Perkins $7,800,531 $8,477,437 $9,154,342

Anderson Varejao $8,400,000 $9,100,000 $9,800,000

JaVale McGee $10,000,000 $10,750,000 $11,250,000 $12,000,000

DeAndre Jordan $10,532,977 $10,986,550 $11,440,123

Nenê $13,000,000 $13,000,000 $13,000,000 $13,000,000

Tyson Chandler $13,604,188 $14,100,538 $14,596,888

Andrew Bogut $13,150,000 $14,200,000

Lopez is not a starting Center
Thompson is not a Center.
Hawes is terrible on D.

Gortat is Ok.

OKC is not dumping Perkins because they havent any other options at starting C.

McGee and Varejao would be Ok too.

Jordan is impossible, same problem that Perkins, and also his bbf with Griffin.

Nenê injuries and his contracts are awful, no way.
Same with Bogut.

No way the Knicks are trading Chandler for a 10 pick.

In the end only Gortat, Varejao and McGee seem logic, McGee is the best choice, and actually with Denver needing space to re-sign Iggy, it could be doable.

McGee and pick27 for pick10 and pick39 (or Freeland).

The soon to be Sonics board is talking about a Cousins deal. I do wonder if the Kings (Sonics)
would consider dealing Cousins for our pick.

And then some, surely... We don't have nearly enough assets

No team is going to give up as many assets as they should for a perceived head case like
Cousins.

Cousins doesn't play a lick of D. We should put Roy Hibbert on that list. If we are putting Chandler on there.

Maybe so, but how could you pass on a LaDeMarcus front court?... or would it be DeLaMarcus?

The Phoenix board seems fine with dealing the player we select for them at 10 for
Gortat. If they pick a big at 5 (Len) and perhaps McCollum at 10, they could be
similar to where we were this year with cap space and a lottery pick in 2014.

It's a win win for both teams for we'd still have Meyers around to develop and
a solid player at center in Gortat along with cap space to spend on a free
agent.

do we really want to trade the 10 pick for a decent/solidish C who only has ONE yr left on his contract? I don't think I do

Probably dependent on what happens with Dwight but Asik is would be a guy I'd target.

He'd be a great fit.

It would be a huge risk on gambling Asik will be available for LA can pay Howard more than
anyone else.

The thing is though virtually every team in the league wants a big who rebounds and
plays defense. Gortat is the most available center out there and we'd be only dealing
pick #10 in a mediocre draft. Portland would presumably sound out Gortat's agent
for ball park figures on a new deal prior to any trade.

Gortat ranked 50th in the NBA this year in rebound percentage....that's right, 49 different players had a better rebound rate

Gortat's defensive numbers are at or slightly above average. And Phoenix's interior defense was just as bad as Portland's. If Gortat was a defensive force inside, you'd expect Phoenix to post better numbers then Portland, but no

in other words, Gortat is a big, but saying he's a big who can rebound and defend seems to be true only if the qualification is to do both at an average level

Gortat is the most available center out there and we'd be only dealing
pick #10 in a mediocre draft.

Delambert is available and he wouldn't cost a draft pick

Zaza Pachulia is available and his cost, both in salary and acquisition should be significantly lower then Gortat's. He also happens to be a much better rebounder then Gortat, while having some defensive numbers that are just as good as Gortat's

Portland would presumably sound out Gortat's agent for ball park figures on a new deal prior to any trade.

sorry, but I think that's a bit loopy

no agent will be dumb enough to set the price for his client a year in advance. He won't know what the market is, what the salary cap will be, or how his client will play in the intervening season. Far too many variables

there's simply no way that Portland can minimize the risk that they lose Gortat after a year rental unless they sign him to a contract extension as part of the trade, and neither side would be willing to do that

My argument with that sentiment is that neither Dalembert of Zaza would do much to
move the needle and while its not likely Gortat would agree to re-sign with Portland
as a part of a trade, his free agency comes during a year when Miami's big 3 are a
part of a loaded 2014 free agent class. We're still only giving up the tenth pick in
a mediocre draft and would not overpaying for a free agent for lots of teams seem
to have cap space and even the Eric Maynor's of the world will get paid this summer.

I've been watching Phoenix teams since the 80's and that franchise's teams have
never played defense. They've typically always tried to outscore their opponents
since the days of Alvan Adams and Walter Davis and rebelled when Terry Porter
tried to change their ways.

If healthy.. Verajao just may be the best fit for our team but I wouldn't count on that... I'm starting to think that just using our pick on BPA and signing the best center possible might be our best bet for this roster. We just need so much at the moment.

Ideally Dwight signs in Houston and they give up Asik for #10 but I'm not sure it's likely

I agree as the more we discuss this our options appear very limited. I actually think Javale McGee is perhaps the most likely "capspcace" type target, and Dalelambert and Zaza might be our backstop options if nothing else works. If nothing better works out if we liked a guy like Gorgui Dieng he might be worth getting and we then we do the backstop plan and let Gorgui and Meyers develop and battle it out.

If McGee wasn't such a complete BONEHEAD, he'd almost be the ideal fit. Athletic, runs the floor, rebounds, and blocks a ton of shots. However, there is a reason that Karl didn't play him. The Nuggets clearly saw his physical potential to give him $10 million a year though.

If only we could put Joel Pryzbilla's heart and brain in McGee's body... :o

Sounds about right to me.

I like Dieng where he is projected to go, but not at our #10. If we could pick up a mid round pick, Dieng would be a good player to develop. Some of the better defensive numbers, offense is not good but he gets o-boards and assists with low TO's which is something. I broke down Adams in the other tread, so I'll do Diengs per-minute comparison since now I have this in an excel file.

D bounds: Rank #6

I read what Olshey said about you guys wanting a vet 5 man. As a fan of the Nuggets I would be open to moving McGee for draft compensation. But my unbiased advice would be different. I keep hearing you guys want Andy... who is actually nice... when he's healthy.

If I was Olshey I'd hang on to my draft picks and throw 3 million a year at Ioannis Bourousis. That's my 2 cents.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZdxC4cO8Zs

The Spurs tried to bring him over a couple years ago but he was asking for full MLE... now that he's a little older (29) and with the economy in Europe... and his contract situation... 3 million really ought to do it these days.

You might ask David "Dumbass" Kahn about stealing Norel as well. He's really a 4 man but he could work with what you got.
I like my prospects the same way I like my women... foreign- pickIBL
