yeah maybe you're right. but you've got to think it's the easiest position to replace. unlike the other positions two's and three's are almost always interchangeable. and you only need one guy (in our case nic) that can play both wing positions thus opening your options to any good sf or sg. we could replace wes with anyone from a little guy like afflalo or eric Gordon up to guys like Thad young, josh Smith or Gallo. it's a wide range of potential replacements.

you lose a pg you gotta get a pg same with center. not many pfs can slide up to the center position for an entire season or more. id guess a dozen or so centers can easily move to pf.

these players signed a mle or less in free agency.

and I'll admit Wesley is better than all of them (except wes Mathews, toss up there)

in fact looking at the list I'm pretty disappointed, I thought there would be better players on mle deals.

mike dunleavy
kirk hinrick
martel Webster
gary Neal
jason terry
Gerald green
Wesley Matthews
shaun Livingston
draymond green
jamal Crawford
matt Barnes

I'm pretty sure I'm missing some players too.

And for the most part, everyone on that list is a backup or on the downside of their career.

when you look around the league last season at what SG and hybrid guards were being paid:

Kyle Korver 6,760,563
Louis Williams 5,225,000
Keith Bogans 5,058,198
Marcus Thornton 8,050,000
Gerald Henderson 6,000,000
Kirk Hinrich 4,059,000
Mike Dunleavy 3,183,000
Jarrett Jack 6,300,000
Monta Ellis 8,000,000
Jose Calderon 6,791,570
Wilson Chandler 6,344,164
Rodney Stuckey 8,500,000
James Harden 13,701,250
Jeremy Lin 8,374,646
George Hill 8,000,000
Evan Turner 6,679,867
J.J. Redick 6,300,000
Jamal Crawford 5,225,000
Courtney Lee 5,225,000
Tony Allen 4,494,382
Dwyane Wade 18,673,000
O.J. Mayo 8,000,000
Kevin Martin 6,500,000
Eric Gordon 14,283,844
Tyreke Evans 10,300,000
J.R. Smith 5,565,000
Thabo Sefolosha 3,900,000
Arron Afflalo 7,750,000
Jason Richardson 6,204,250
Gerald Green 3,500,000
Emanuel Ginobili 7,500,000
Danny Green 3,762,500
DeMar DeRozan 9,500,000
Landry Fields 6,250,000
Brandon Rush 4,000,000
Trevor Ariza 7,727,280
Martell Webster 5,150,000

then Matthews at 6.8 million doesn't seem like anything close to an overpay. He averaged 16.4 points with a TS% of 59% and a usage rate under 20%. All while playing fairly good defense. Portland probably doesn't beat Houston in the playoffs without the defense Matthews played against Harden

there always seems to be some hypothetical player better then this Blazer starter or the other. Usually cheaper too. But the theory usually doesn't fit the reality

I might be alone in this, but I don't care how much a guy is getting paid / is going to get paid unless we're looking to get under the cap to sign a free agent. If we're just gonna re-sign Mathews and Rolo it doesn't matter to me if we end up paying them fifteen million dollars. But if we're looking to sign a free agent center and re-sign Mathews, every penny matters.

I don't get it. I would like it explained to me.

Our guys aren't gonna be healthy forever Blake for exmple hasn't played 82 games since he was a Blazer/clipper. I doubt Wes and Batum get another 82 game season. So that means our backups CJ Barton Wright and Co. are gonna get time as starters.

Same goes for our bigs Lopez is like the Dre Miller of C's so he should be good to go, but LMA has droughts of health and that means Robinson Kaman Freeland etc are gonna get more playing time aswell, it is a long season.

and you have to factor that in when loking at min distribution. Which is fun to do but often inaccurate.

yeah I agree with this, its not like its a rodney stuckey situation where we overpay a lousy player to keep them, if we decide to sign wes it will be because he still looks good and the way he plays he doesn't really need young legs or athleticism.

Although flexibilty is key in that situation so if you could keep him on a 3 year deal instead of a 4 year deal then yeah, but just because he is making 2mill more a year on the salary cap then you think he should, big deal Wright costs 3mill and he doesn't do much.

I am not gonna guess mins but our rotation intially.

I think we will run a 9 man rotation this year to start out instead of a 8 man rotation. the 2 vets we picked up and 2 of our young future talents.

having starting caliiber players at every position is a luxury us fans should not take for granted especially since two of them are all NBA talents. So that makes the rotaiton decision so much easier and chemistry very easy aswell.

Starters
Dame
Wes
Batum
LMA
Lopez

Bench
Blake
Kaman
CJ
Wright/Robinson

In and out of the Rotation (inorder)

Robinson/Wright
Barton
Freeland
Crabbe
Meyers (hopefully he surprises everyone)

I put Wright and Robinson in the rotation and on the in and out of rotation slot, because I think Stotts is gonna want to play wright as a stretch 4 with kaman at times, and because we can't have wes playing backup SF too much, and I doubt Stotts would run a 10 man rotation.

Also Kaman is supposedly going to play with lopez at times, we will see for now, but I think it is gonna go back and forth between Wright and Robinson like it did at the end of the season.

I should also note CJ and Barton are on the same avenue as those two, but I just have my inkling that with a full season with the team under his belt and injury free to start the year Stotts is gonna be hard pressed to keep CJ from the 3rd guard role, let alone mull over wherther he should be playing as the backup 2 instead of Barton.

But as I said it is a long season and evryone will get there chance to prove if they deserve it (Crabbe,Meyers).

We have 8 regular rotation players.

LA
Lillard
Batum
Matthews
Lopez
Blake
Robinson
Kaman

And, 4 other players that are legitimate rotation players fighting for regular minutes.

McCollum
Write
Barton
Freeland

And, 3 firmly planted on the bench trying to get a foot into the PT shuffle.

Crabbe
Claver
Leonard
