OT- Why I hate the Blazers
Let me start this off by stating I actually dont hate the Blazers, but the ineptitude of what seems to be majority of the General Managers in the NBA. Over the years we have seen the Blazers rebuild like the Bulls and Hawks, two perfect examples. Teams loaded with lottery picks, but I dont hate them as much as the Blazers. These are the reasons why I hate the Blazers it seems these days.
- New Orleans Hornets, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves.
They have purchased two first round picks from the Hornets and Suns. Every owner in the league has cash to buy picks, yet it seems that people only want to sell to Paul Allen. Maybe he offers free anti virus software or something. You look at the 2006 draft, the Blazers clearly wanted to come away with Aldridge and Roy and sure enough they did it. They swapped Thomas for Aldridge at the expense of Viktor Khryapa. Sure enough he was never really supposed to be good, but that was the price to swap the second and fourth pick. With the Celtics they trade Sebastian Telfair for the seventh pick. All ranting aside, how? Then after that they flip Randy Foye who I never liked for the guy who I thought was the best in the draft Brandon Roy. We all knew what the Blazers did in the Draft of 06 was great, but seriously how is it fair? They did it with liquid assets that teams like the Suns and Hornets and Knicks are freely willing to give up.
- Vanna White
The luck of the ping pong balls, yeah simply put its not fair to follow up 2006 by giving the team the best big man prospect since Elton Brand. Heck to make it even worse, lets buy a foreign MVP in Fernandez for a couple of broken Window Vista's. I mean how can Phoenix be this cheap? I mean could a guy like Martell Webster really cause all of this?
- NY Sanitation
Im still pissed at the fact that the Blazers seem to handle every distraction so quietly. Maybe its because they are in Portland, but still how can one team trade Zach Randolph to NY for essentially Frye and a buyout. How does one GM find a team with Eddy Curry and say hey you know what would be great next to him... another big that dont play defense. Now we are talking about Darius Miles, I mean wasnt this the same guy that was viewed as a cancer, malcontent and what say you. Your telling me he cant "poison" a franchise with some off court comments? Essentially be the Anti-Knicks.
- Walk the Walk
I mean how does one team get to do all of these moves and not be talked about? How does one team make all of the small moves and allow it to turn into a snowball effect, yet a positive reaction from it. Any other team in the NBA it seems that if they have conversations the media knows about it and the deal is quickly dismissed. Whenever you hear about the Blazers, they get it done. Its not "Rumored" or "Hold Onto Your Shorts" its... ITS DONE.
In closing I hate what the Blazers have become mainly because every other team can do it, but none seem to be as creative in doing it. Now let me say this, I fully believe the Blazers will come away with either Bayless or Gordon in this draft. Why? Because this team is on the brink of greatness and one of them will help tremendously. The front office will find a way to do it and for that reason the Blazers suck.
*Disclaimer* I still love ya.

Re: OT- Why I hate the Blazers
We have a GM who's a genius, literally.
We also have a billionaire owner who views the Blazers as his toy, he'll pay whatever to get the job done.
An underrated member of our staff is Tom Penn. This guy is going to help this team more than fans think. It was his call/idea to get the TE from NY for Freddy Jones that essentially landed us Rudy Fernandez and James Jones.

Thanks for the love, I guess?
Alot of people are hating on the Blazers because of Oden's injury. Blazers are not just about Oden.

If you go back throughout the pages (If Possible) I actually wanted him to be the new Knicks GM before we got Walsh.

Great post. I am sure KP himself would be proud after reading your sentiments. I for one, feel blessed to see Blazer Management actually putting P Allen's wages to its best use. Before, the philosophy was to buy a championship via overpaying stars / former stars while giving a back seat to character and chemistry. Thanks to KP's schooling in San Antonio, the new approach of spending money to build a team based on chemistry, character and talent, has brought us on the brink of something really big.
Can October please come sooner?

I share the OP's sentiments. As much as i love the blazers, i do feel this is unfair, although the other owners are dumb if they cant use their assests. I laugh at Robert Sarver. He had a team that was one, maybe 2, very small pieces away from a championship. Now hes paying lux-tax on SHAQ and still wont get anything. Smart moves Kerr/D'Antoni/Sarver

Re: OT- Why I hate the Blazers
We are in a great situation here to be sure and I do feel for your situation in NY. I think that one of the things that hurts you is the fact that you guys are so well covered by the media and everything is so out there and discussed and while that is an advantage to be in a bigger market, it goes to show that there are drawbacks as well.
For us the thing is that we are here situated in the NW corner of the contry, not very big comparively compared to other NBA team host cities, and being in te west not in a major market as some smaller cities in the south and east. Which adds to our under-the-radarness.
What is great about us is that after having a GM that just did not get how to put a team together in Bob Whitsett, we now have a GM that knows how to construct a team from the ground up, much like what he has done. Add to that the richest owner in pro sports, and that is a very powerful combo.
Whitsett played with the Blazerts roster as if it was a fantasy team, adding tons of players who were stars to compete for a championship. Our new GM has taken a different approach in that he has aded players that know how to work as a team and how to form a good bond on and off the court.
One of the added benefits about being here in the NW is that we dont have all the attractions that someone like you has in the Big Apple. That is why it is imparitive that we get players who are hard working, unlselfish, and humble. Comparitively speaking there is NOTHING to do here compared to a L*, NY, Chi or Mia, and that bodes well for us as we can have players come here and just work on their games and since it is a smaller community they can spend more time around other players off the court as well.
If you are a true fan of basketball, which most people who post here are, you HAVE to love the Blazers, not for what they are doing here but rather how they are doing it, by adding players that are team oriented, hard working and humble, just genuinely great guys. KP has stated that he will pass on a player who is more talented if he does not fit our "culture" of the attributes mantioned above.

Re: OT- Why I hate the Blazers
As blazers fans were are quite lucky to have a smart and aggressive GM, also to have a very wealthy owner. I think one thing that is extremely importent that is getting overlooked is that Paul Allen has learned from his mistakes. For a period of time he took a approch of tossing as much money to get talent. What we got out of that was some good years but also the horrible bloated roster that was the Jailblazers. Allen was also a driving force in signing Miles to his terrible contract. At some point Allen figured out that he needed to change that approch and frankly leave alot of the GMing to a more qualified person. There are many cases where owners wanting to have to much of impact on their team ends up hurting more then helping. Allen I think has found a good balance of being an extremely intrested and active party in the blazers while letting the braintrust that he pays do their job.

To be fair, I don't think we can say that he learned such a lesson at all. He learned to stop throwing money into a sinkhole, which the Blazers were for a few years, but now that they're good again he's throwing money at the team again. So far the difference is that Whitsett built the last team with no concern to the character or the fit of the players he brought in. KP certainly has been concerned with the character. With the fit, we will see.

PAs billions allow us to always be over the salary cap. But our true savior in the rebuilding effort has been KP. We have a GM that actually does his job, and that's the difference. KP lives and sleeps basketball. And every day he makes more calls to other GMs with trade ideas, than any other team's GM. He works harder, and we fans reap the benefits
