Kings @ Thunder

Post#1 » by pillwenney » Sat Apr 14, 2012 12:10 am

On the road, we've been playing like complete crap lately, arena-related distractions, we beat them last time we played and they surely haven't forgotten, they're one of the best teams in the league, and we're one of the worst.

I THINK WE'VE GOT THIS ONE, GUYS!

Is DeMarcus the last man to go back down to defense or what.

Every damn time man.

I'm surprised they're not wearing Royals jerseys.

Dumb foul by Tyreke.

Oh well. We'll probably get better without him.

The last couple of defensive possessions by Outlaw/Hayes on Durant was incredible.

Tank lineup out already! Good to see Honeycutt is getting some real minutes.

See, this is exactly what I was talking about last game. You have a first unit that has all your top options offensively but can't play defense for ****. Then you have a bench with some legit defensive capabilities but absolutely no centerpiece offensively. They touted them scoring 13 points but they played 8 minutes to get it and for a "running" team, you have to do a whole lot better than 13 points in an 8 minute stretch to have any chance of winning. Then, Smart puts the starters back in and after all that time sitting whatever flow they had before was long gone. That's Westball 'yo. C'mon Smart, time to start putting more balance out on the floor.

I'm not even sure what you'd prefer. I mean I guess he could have brought Tyreke back in earlier, but then he would have had to play him with TWill.

The rotations aren't great at all. I'm not saying that. But they're not the real problem. The real problem is that we blow.

I really really think its possible that our team is getting worse every single year, but our "talent" is just improving. I'm not sure if this team would beat the Natt coached Kevin Martin led team that finished last in the league. We just keep getting worse and worse and worse....

Whoa, whoa.

Lets not go THAT far. The 08-09 Kings team were simply horrible and should have forfeited their games. They were that bad. The team main option was a gimpy Kevin Martin.

It depends on which team you're talking about. When this team plays like it's capable of playing, it's probably as good as any team we've had since we were last in the playoffs.

The way they've played recently, and at some other points this year is maybe worse than any of them though. Talent doesn't always mean you're the better team. When this team at it currently is, is at its worst, it's monumentally bad.

Giving up I see. It's not rocket science, and while they are playing badly, it is a situation I've been monitoring for awhile now and the trends are getting more and more cemented. Role players, who mostly comprise the bench unit, are settling in to what they are and are playing defense, setting screens, moving off the ball, etc. The offensive focal points are settling in as well and a starting to look for their own shots and at times the team is becoming selfish. Those are mostly certainly things greatly effected by the players you have out on the floor. I just don't like this whole thing of platooning those players in and out as a unit. Most successful teams don't put in a "bench unit", they bring change of pace guys, or more of the same types of players in and sprinkle them in and around the core unit. Not this.

Right, their talent level was much much much worse than this current team. But our TEAM unity is much much worse than that team. I honestly think that roster would have won more games this year than this current team.

Yes, like I said, it's not great. But it really, really isn't the scapegoat reason for why we suck.

Man, Cuz's defensive effort is just awful.

Probably because he's playing with too many starters.
