Every year the big time sites and mocks tend to always be about a month or so behind this board. This is why I laugh still seeing some places have someone like Duren top 5. We all know within a month or 2 they will have him late 1st early 2nd like how many on here have been seeing it for a long time.

Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
Jabari Smith really isn't worthy of a #1 pick. He is a 3-4 pick in most decent drafts.
This draft has depth, but no star power at all. As a consequence of Chet and Paolo not being worthy, Jabari Smith might end up being the de-facto #1.

you're not gonna get a Zion level prospect every class, obviously.

Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
This is how I view it. The ideal top 3 looks like the 2019 draft.
1. Locked in franchise player
2. The guy with a super high ceiling, but more question marks compared to the #1 guy
3. Not as high of a ceiling but a reasonable floor to go with a solid ceiling.
That's kind of how the 2019 draft looked. So I would say in an ideal draft I would have Jabari 3rd. Just a quick glance at past drafts, his average draft position would probably be 2nd. So I wouldn't view him as a bad #1 pick.
Ya he's not a prospect that I would tank all season for. He isn't the Zion/AD/KD/LeBron kind of prospect that you actively hope your team tanks for. I also dont have him on that next tier either.
Again I dont see him being the guy that turns around a franchise and is that franchise cornerstone player. But I think he's a really good prospect. But when Im looking at the bottom of the NBA standings, Im seeing Detroit, Houston, OKC, NO. If I was a Detroit fan would I be bummed with the prospect of adding Jabari to Cade, or Houston fan being bummed about adding Jabari to Green? Nope.

Lucking into Zion might not be a good thing with the way things are going.

I'd rather have Evan Mobley than Zion if winning basketball games was important to me on the pro level. Zion (weight issues notwithstanding is a one-way player at this level due to his lack of height).

He reminds me of a more skilled John Collins but less athleticism.

I think he's very different from Collins: he's much more taller, has better ballhandling and shot creation, for instance.
He's more similar than, let's say, Brandon Ingram than John Collins. And Ingram is still not a very good comparison, IMO.
Right now I'd say his playing style is a mix of Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge (not actual production, but strictly playing style).

Yeah, this has been talked about here many times.
But I wonder, why does this happen so often? I mean, those guys work in this field for a living.
Why are they so slow to catch up?

Dude looks like a 6'10" Vince Carter on this play.

Honestly, the first game I saw from him was on Saturday and he didn't look like an explosive leaper. That was a nice dunk though.
His mid range game looked unbelievable though.

He's 6'10 and his head doesnt come close to even rim height. Dont get me wrong, great looking dunk, but ya he's not the most explosive player. His explosion is probably one of his biggest question marks. He is much more of a smooth athlete than an explosive one.

Yeah. Also, Collins is an awesome athlete in terms of vertical explosion. Jabari definitely not that level of athlete and I agree with it being a question mark (when talking about top-tier prospects) but obviously he's ahead in other areas at the same age.

I think he's probably on par athletically with Jaren Jackson Jr. Not an incredibly explosive athlete but fluid.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

I cant give a non-generational guy the Durant comp so I would say Rashard Lewis with the stiff-but-athletic movement of a LMA.
I think he can be a #2 option on an elite team which is worthy of a #1 pick in a draft lacking elite talent overall (IMO).
Still think Chet has the highest upside though.

Stronger than Ingram, so call defend the 4 like Collins and Aldridge, but smoother on the wings and on ball like Ingram, but not close to KD fluidity.

Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
Would Jabari Smith be ranked closely to Chris Bosh or would there be a sizeable to massive gap between them? I think Bosh went fourth, but it was a year where Brawn, Melo, and Darko were all very highly rated, warranted or not. I think he was seen as a perrenial allstar type which is what he became soon enough with the raptors.
Let's playin for 9th!
