Jerome Randle

Post#1 » by ALL HAIL » Sun Apr 25, 2010 6:48 am

Why is he so slept on?

He's short, so what.

So is Aaron Brooks and Jameer Nelson. They're doing okay right?

What's the big idea?

This dude can shoot and pass the pill.

He's 5'10/5'11.

He'll be a 2nd round steal. I'd prefer him over Sherron Collins because he's a natural PG. Let him sit for a year then Boom you got your Eric Maynor.

I get the feeling the Knicks will scoop him up before he falls to my beloved Lakers.

If he were an inch and a half taller he'd be in the middle of the first round.

5'11 is tall enough to ball. I could see if he was 5'8 or even 5'9.

He looks like Tim Hardaway to me. Or better yet Dana Barros.

I'm really hoping the Warriors can pick him up in the second (#33). He'd be a great long term back up to Curry IMO.

This guy is perfect for the Lakers IMO. Everything we need at PG but size, and that is great for a second round pick

Repect.

Unfortunately, the Randle I've seen is probably perfect for the Knicks and other teams as well.

Cross your fingers but I can't see the Knicks passing on him to run Dantoni's offense ... they'll be stupid as hell if they did.

Next Aaron Brooks
and he's being slept on because he played at Cal, I live in California and we get like 5 Cal games a year, I doubt anyone outside of Pac-10 country minus the hardcore college ball fans has heard of him

No where near the athlete Aaron Brooks is.. comparable shooter, but Brooks release is lighting quick.
Nelson is much stronger and a better passer..

Randle compares to Tyronn Lue or Jose Barea imo

Nelson is definitely better than Randle. Brooks is probably more athletic, but no way are they comparable in shooting. Randle is a lights out shooter, dude shot 93% (!) at the FT line and 40% from 3. Brooks is not even close. Randle is also infinitely better at shooting than Lue/Barea.

And he's also only just 5-10.

He might be talented but he's just too short. People will be able to shoot over him, he'll struggle to score in close against the big guys, etc. And he's nowhere near Nelson or Brooks, in any area.

he is being greatly overrated right now... and to the above comment, no way I take him above Sherron Collins (same size, better athlete, stronger, a winner)

I like him alot better than Collins. Collins is what he is. He didn't improve his game much year to year at Kansas and actually regressed some. Randle has more upside, better conditioned athlete, and a better shot.
Trade S. Jackson soon. NJ seems like a nice place for him.

When did Nelson and Brooks shoot 93% from the line and 40% from 3? I'm not saying Randle is better, but he is most definitely the better shooter. Randle is not going to be our starting PG, all we need from him is to guard the quick, but short PGs (Lawson, Brooks, etc), space the floor, and dribble the ball past half court. Randle is our best choice in the second round to fit this role.

College stats don't mean jack once you get to the NBA. Lawson and Brooks are lightning quick, while being a little bigger than Randle. No one is doubting Randle's ability to ball, but the guy is just too small. His offense is definitely there, but the guy will be a liability in the NBA much like he was against Duke. You can't give up a 3 inch-40 pound weight difference @ the PG position, where the best ballhandlers lie; that's just asking for the other team to drive all day long.

First off, I've only seen him play about three times but in my observations he is tall enough.

Also, he was measured at 5'9.25 without shoes. That means with shoes he will measure at over 5'10.5.

So he is a solid 5'10 and change.

There are a plethora of 5'10 guards who have had long and successfull careers that could do ONLY SOME of the things that Randle does well.

I could name many but I'll start with Dana Barros, Tim Hardaway, and Michael Adams. You could also throw in Brooks and Nelson for a present day litmus.

Randle could stand to put on some weight but that will happen sooner rather than later (Have you seen Tyrus Thomas and Noah recently? They were rail thin coming out.)

Randle is a sleeper. On the Lakers he will thrive as a shooter (first), a playmaker (second), and a defender of quick PGs (third).
