Re: 2013 Sleepers
Nash was very highly regarded out of high school, not all guys come in and own the NCAA their first year, the fact he is showing progression and improvement is a very good sign
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Re: 2013 Sleepers
Brandon Paul. He has NBA range, and is quite good with the ball. He is a little turnover prone, but he has the jump and shot of a NBA 2 guard. Keep your eye on this kid. I think he's one who will thrive when given more freedom in the NBA.

Re: 2013 Sleepers
Anyone watching UNLV?
from the boxscores it seems like Bennet is beasting, any additional info about his play?
Tbh the collage game is ideal for him where height isn't really a big problem, playing inside and out he's probably a nightmare to guard.
How is he defensively though?

i only saw the oregon game so far. offensively, bennett is a threat from all over the floor. his jumper's good, but better in the mid-range than behind the arc. he can also take that 1 dribble from mid-range to attack the hoop.
defensively, he's pretty nondescript. he can block some shots at this level, but for a guy with his build he's not particularly physical or aggressive.
it could just be the coaching though as UNLV isn't a well-coached team. they just play fast and have talent. i wasn't particularly impressed with his defense in other settings though. im not saying he's soft, but i figured someone built like he is with his athleticism would be more of a factor on that end and on the glass.

Anthony Bennett is like Tristan Thompson but with a more polished offensive game slightly undersized for a power forward but he has solid mid range jumper and some post moves with great bounce. UNLV has a solid team and he is probably there best player I think he is a top ten draft pick in the NBA I really feel he is tristian Thompson but with more offence to his game

I don't see it except the physical similarity. The best thing about Thompson is his ability to defend ball screens, block some shots, and crash the offensive boards. Bennett isn't that kind of defender at this point and is obviously the more skilled offensive player.

Mccollum. He is putting up monster stats. Not as elite ahtlete as damian lillard but still 6'3 with a 6'6 wingspan. He will be fine in the nba

What do you guys think about Karnowski?
I got to see him, he's just so slow - but that kid is really HUGE.
First round if he declares? He has to work on his conditioning obviously, but with his range, IQ and size - I guess he has to be, no?

Not too highly as far as nba impact goes. Watched him in europe and didn't dominate in any instance despite significant size advantages, Karnowski just played "better" than his competition.
Never left a particularly positive impression.
As noted, lack of acceleration and overall speed is hampering his outlook. Doesnt appear to make quick decisions with the ball either, which can be another obstacle given quickness disadvantage.
Seeing his demeanor on the court, not too much to lust for from the mental pov either.

Re: 2013 Sleepers
Syracuse has had three sleepers rise the draft ranks in the last four years. They were nowhere near top 10 when the season started.
Johnny Flynn
Wesley Johnson
Dion Waiters
Bad picks, but a history of sleepers nonetheless. Is that player Michael Carter-Williams "MCW" this year -- 6.6 point leading the nation in assists and steals (I think).

For someone his size (7-1, 285) he runs the floor really well. He's lost almost 20 pounds since September and is in a much better shape and will get better.

Maybe even late lotto. He has a great size, excellent footwork, high basketball IQ, great post moves and passing for freshman big. That's not easy to find.

You should watch him more closely. His decision making and the fact that he knows what he wants to do with the ball before he catches it in the post makes him a special player.

Re: 2013 Sleepers
How about TJ Warren? could he declare this year? he's a pure scorer from SF position and has size too.
I like the prospect a lot, maybe he need to improve his body long-term but, his stroke looks nice.

it's possible. i think he's a better prospect than cj leslie. he's got natural body strength, has an off the dribble game, has a good floater game and knows how to create space for his shot. im not crazy about his shot though. he shoots a slingshot with no rotation. i think he'll have to tweak that form a little bit. he's strong already but i think he'd be more athletic if he tightened up a little bit.

Re: 2013 Sleepers
I'm very impressed with Anthony Bennett of UNLV - generally listed as a late 1st rounder in mocks - I think he's a top 10 prospect. I think he's ranked low because he measured at 6'7 with shoes, but he had a 7'1 wingspan. And the 6'7 is a bit deceptive, imo, because he's got a very short neck. I'm guessing his reach is probably solid for a PF. He's certainly going to be strong enough to play PF in the NBA, but I'd like to see him continue developing perimeter skills. Any thoughts on whether or not he can develop into a 3?

Re: 2013 Sleepers
^ Have you had a chance to watch him at all? No chance to develop into a 3. He is much further developed on offense than most expected. But, his interior defense leaves a lot to be desired. Still, one of the most promising freshmen in college basketball. He is a first rounder if he comes out this year. Not sure how high yet.
