Joe Harris: Is he Klay Thompson Lite???

Post#1 » by Niko23 » Sat Jun 28, 2014 1:08 pm

After drafting Wiggins, I completely forgot we had another pick. Looks like we selected Joe Harris and after watching some film, he looks like a Klay Thompson Lite to me. He could fit very well next to our ball dominant guards. Can anyone tell me more about him?

...he's a shooter... so I guess in that way he's similar.

Poor length and athleticism... poor defensive reputation. Below average rebounder. Some ball handling and passing skills, but not enough to make you think that will be a major part of this game at the next level.

He's a classic specialist, a 1D player.

What makes Thompson so usefully is that he's a shooting specialist who's also solid at everything else... I don't think that's the case for Harris.

You'd want to compare Harris to Korver, but Korver is MUCH longer (6'10" wingspan v. 6'6" for Harris) and Korver is the exception, not the rule.

I think the odds of Harris being a good rotation player on a good team are extremely low. Odds of him being a crappy, 15 MPG SF, on a crappy Cavs team? Decent.

I hope to see Karasev blossom under Blatt so I hope Harris doesn't take up much of Sergey's developmental time. That being said, its always good to have additional shooters.

I think he was a complete steal and should have went late first. He is JJ Redick lite. Not a great athlete in terms of dunks, but moves well.. similar to a mike miller and is actually more athletic laterally that JJ imo, and is very well built. Also has a quick release, is a decent passer, and plays good team D. Might be the starting two at some point for CLE or another squad.

Hes not Klay though. Klay is on a different level as a prospect and talent.

I hated the Harris pick. Why take a 3pt shooting specialist who hits 64% from the FT line? There have been shooters like Harris in NCAA who couldn't do it in the NBA and FT is usually a solid way to predict it. Cleanthony is a better SHOOTING prospect than this guy let alone the rest

who cares about the 64% from the line? the career 41% from 3 through 4 yrs is a better indicator of his shooting ability. he's also very good at shooting on the move and is well-schooled in freeing himself up off the ball utilizing multiple screens. that's something a guy like c.early doesn't and probably won't ever do well.
smart kid, very well-coached, strong build, has a toughness about him. he's not quick laterally, but he's strong, smart and virginia's pack-line man D is good training for NBA man D.
he might be just a shooter, but there is some versatility to his shooting because he can be used running off of multiple screens. solid ast rate too for a wing which makes him even more effective in floppy sets. that shows he can read defenses which gives coaches more confidence that they can actually run a set for him.

no, he's not klay thompson but he's not just a standstill, catch-n-shoot shooter.

He is a tough guy that can shot the ball pretty well off screens, has some ballhandling ability, he seems to be a Blatt type of player to me.
Could be useful, he is a smart passer also.

Cleanthony Early may have more potential but he also has more bust potential. I like the Harris pick because he'll be able to come off the bench and hit 3s when needed. We have enough PFs. This roster needs shooters.

Harris is not a great athlete, but better than people think. Korver is longer (and a better shooter from distance), but Harris is the better athlete and better able to get open. Moves well without the ball, but also has a nice crossover. Not as good an athlete as Waiters, but better athlete than Dellevadova. And not a headcase either.
