That's your opinion. Consensus had him as a top 60 guy - I had him top 35.

The NBA these days is all about wings. Mitchell is a modern wing who is really good at driving into the paint and either finishing, drawing a foul or kicking to the open man. Decent outside shooter. High motor. Can defend at a decent level for a freshman. Was a 5 star recruit and was one of the best, most consistent players for duke as a freshman. 6'8" with a strong build.

Could make a leap next year and go top 20..

The player you just described would’ve gone lotto, that’s not Mitchell. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Mitchell and very happy he is returning, but there is a reason why his stock plummeted throughout the year.

He is horrible at driving. His handle is beyond bad.
He also isn’t a good passer, he had more turnovers than assists and barely even averaged an assist.
His jumper also isn’t translatable to the NBA because it’s a low, slow push shot.

He’s a good defender but not a high impact defender. I think he needs to work on being a more impactful defender, become a more consistent rebounder and tweak the shot. I think his best comp at the moment if things go right is Jarred Vanderbilt.

and he's not really a wing, he's more a combo big type...also with Mgbako, Stewart and Power coming in for Duke i'm honestly not sure where all the minutes are gonna come from. at least one of these guys will be rotting on the bench.

Yeah well last year Kendall Brown, JD Davison, Caleb Houstan, Trevor Keels, Bryce Mcgowens and Josh Minott declared and got drafted outside of the top 35.

-Lots of guys declare (and get drafted) even if they're not gonna go top 35
-Often times it's hard to know exactly where (or if) you'll get drafted - especially when the draft is 3 months away
-3 months before the draft last year, nobody thought David Roddy or Andrew Nembhard was gonna go top 35

right but if he had word that he was going to be drafted anywhere near the 35 you still think he goes back to Duke? not even go to the combine for more intel?

You could ask the same questions about Proctor. I think most mocks had both of them in the mid to late 2nd round range.

Yet you have guys like Jamal Shead, Jalen Cook and TJ Bamba testing the waters - and you won't find any mock with their names even close to it.

don't want to turn this into a Mitchell thread, I said he's a non-prospect you disagreed by saying he's top 35 for you, i countered with the fact that he didn't declare proves he's closer to a non-prospect than a top 35. you naming randos declaring is irrelevant tbh and i'll leave it at that.

Hopkins returning to Providence.

Read on Twitter

Hopkins, Mitchell, Ware and Proctor. All guys who would have likely gone mid to late 2nd round. All returning to school without even testing draft waters. Interesting..

Starling could have had a shot to go in the 2nd round too, possibly if he had a good showing in the pre-draft process. Same with Brazile, if he could have made good progress with his knee rehab by draft night.

These kids are probably making the right decision. Unless you're a lock to go 1st round, might be better to return to school. Guys taken in the 2nd round (especially mid to late 2nd round) who are young and under-developed - have a tough road ahead. Teams aren't as patient with late 2nd round picks - and they're not going to prioritize getting minutes for them as much. Look what's happened with guys like Davison, Keels, Minott, Houstan, Rollins, Koloko, Kendall Brown, etc.

Duke? :o

Dickinson
Flip
Mitchell
McCain
Proctor

with a bench of
Mgbako
Stewart
Foster
Power

Duke was one of his final schools back in his recruiting days. A man can dream cant he...

If the Twitter rumors are true, it sounds like Duke might be doing the waiting game when it comes to DaRon Holmes. Now that is the dream I really want to come true haha.

Seems to be from both Duke and Dayton guys that think there is a legit chance he might go to Duke if he doesn’t enter the draft. And if that is the case, I will go to war my friend with you over him. He will look better in Duke blue than whatever color GS will be next year haha.
