Bruh. I thought it was top 6 protected for 2 years as well.

Holy smokes. Terrible trade. Oh well. What’s done is done. No team executive has a flawless track record.
Not gonna keep crying about it on a daily basis like some people.

I thought it was just 2 years

Edit: no its definitely 3.

Meanwhile Siakam gets traded for a pick in the #17 range. Thats atrocious GM work right there.

That's not true we traded Vince Carter for a bag of chips.

Thats basically what we got back for Siakam.

honestly might not be a bad thing if we lose it this year..just get it done and end the pain. i dont want to track this pick for another 2 years..in stronger drafts to boot

There's people in this thread that had no idea what the terms to the trade were and still defended the trade

It was a bad trade.

Those who keep trashing it - it's time to move on and hope for the best.

Those who keep defending it, you're just flat out wrong.

No, it was an awful trade. Masai laid out the rationale. He thought we were a C away from being competitive. We overpaid for an average C and will miss the playoffs for the second year in a row.

The trade alone wasn’t a disaster. The disaster was the combination of the trade + holding onto FVV + dragging our feet on GTJ/OG/Siakam + firing Nurse + hurting our draft position in 2023.

This too is oddly specific

Chandan, Ontnut, MessiahUjiri and DelAbbot thanks for making this useless thread legendary in just a few posts.

I was genuinely laughing out loud. Y'all are gold.

They may be kidding but who's really laughing?

The only way Popovich loses is if the pick conveys in 2027 when it downgrades to two 2nd rounders. But in this scenario, Masai loses even more because it would mean Raptors are in a death spiral being bottom 6 for three straight years with BBQ in their prime, and Masai is likely fired.

Therefore, Masai is going to do everything he can to make sure SA gets a 1st round pick from the Raptors. As of today, we sit 6th last meaning there's >50% probability that Popovich wins our #7 or #8 lottery pick & we get nothing out of a miserable season.

Add that SA also got two 2nd round picks from us in that trade & the ones truly laughing are in San Antonio, in particular this guy:

at least it's the respectable franchise like the Spurs and not Boston or Lakers or eastern conference rivals like miami and 76ers.

Surprised to see you admit our FO made a mistake. Unfortunately nearly every big move our FO has made after the title has been a mistake. Only exceptions are Barnes pick, OG trade, and it appears like Dick will pan out. Everything else has been a fail.

If you actually read what I wrote, you wouldn't be surprised.

I didn't want the Poeltl trade before it happened and I didn't likd it after it happened. I also really didnt' like the lack of protections on the pick.

I just don't sit and whine about it afterwards.

Some refuse to evaluate the Siakam trade until the picks/players that we will receive from Indy are known. Same applies here. It's the unknowns that we are "hoping the best" for which may involve further discussion & discord, hence not moving on. This applies to both Siakam & Poeltl trades.

Our draft pick is only top 6 protected for 2024, 2025 and 2026. If it doesn't convey it becomes 2 second round picks in the following draft. Essentially depending on the lottery we could keep our pick this year and next year's draft we'd be in the same position until the pick conveys to the Spurs or becomes 2 seconds.

So does this mean until we a top 6 pick between 2024-2026, we will get second round picks?

Also wouldn't it be beneficial for the Raptors to get a top 6 pick in 2025 or 2026, since this draft is supposed to be weak?

My only gripe was that we didn't use the 2023 pick. Pushing it into the future like this was a bet against yourself.
