This has been covered in some corners. Masai and Ed don’t get along and Ed wanted him gone. His sister was backing Masai but her group lost the power struggle at Rogers. Bell and Larry are still backing Masai. It’s not just a basketball/business related rift btw - look into Ed/Trump and Masai/Trudeau - they don’t like each other.
Ed wants to take over all of MLSE. His first order of business will be to part with Masai. He will then relegate the Raptors below the Leafs and Jays. We can only hope Larry somehow keeps control the Raptors. Otherwise, we’re in for some dark ages stuff.
Had not heard anything about the political/ideaological aspect, which is fascinating and terrifying if a Trump guy is in charge of anything above a dog-walking firm that I care about. Appreciate the info.
Yup . Ed Rogers is a Trump disciple. That is indeed terrifying!
To be clear, there is a lot of speculation out there, especially as Rogers controls a lot of the media that would cover it. So I’m going off what I can read and the random comments you see here/read elsewhere. But Masai’s ties to Trudeau are pretty well publicized and we continue to see top Rogers execs at Trump events:

Silver and the NBA sided with Larry. 2 years post championship, Ed is telling Masai he doesn’t deserve what he’s paid and calls him “arrogant”.
