Dutchy was part of the golden years of sports media personalities when watching "Sports Desk" every night was a staple for all sports fans in Canada. First was the days of yes, Jim Van Horn and Vic ("Make the Final") Rauter, but the baton was passed seamlessly to Dutchy and a few others with sports highlights. Nowadays, I like many others don't watch sports highlight shows because they are easily assessible online on-demand so I can't name any sports media personalities now that does these things. RIP Dutchy.

Rip Dutchy. As many others, he was a part of my childhood watching highlights and replays on TSN. Always seemed like a good guy with a big smile. Wishing his family all the best.

I remember at the age of 14 I was at a hockey tournament at York University (over 20 years ago) and the Canadian u18 team was practicing there. Dutchy was literally the only media member in the stands watching. He was by himself for several hours, I'm guessing he was going to report on it later for a 30 second clip or whatever, but you can see how seriously he took his job. Alternatively he just really, really loved sports and was doing this in his free time.
Also, he was absolutely jacked, like you knew watching Sportscentre that he was muscular, but seeing him in short sleeves was eye opening in terms of just how massive he was.

I haven't watched TSN in a long time, but I remember him. RIP. He went way too young.

Super random, but I had lunch with Vic once through a charity thing and the guy knows ball. Not a casual bball fan at all. Super nice dude too.

I saw him at a church in Orillia a few years ago. I was visiting, he's a member according to my son who also attends there. My son said he's a nice man also.

Heartfelt tribute been airing on TSN tonight before and after the NBA game. Colleagues loved him you can tell.

I never knew until googling articles about his passing, he and Kate Beirness are a couple.

Just heard about this :(

Felt like it was impossible to dislike the guy. I also appreciated that he felt like more than a puckhead.

I really hope Onrait replaces him in the early evening. Can't be someone that is like Dutchy too much or emulates him, because that just won't work to replace that someone like Dutchy..
