Lionel Messi wrote:I don't understand all the karma talk. Has Mike Miller been going around injuring other teams' players or something?

Did he place the bag in Boozer's house so he'd trip over it?
Did he sabotage Johnny Flynn too? Because the T'wolves were a real threat to the Heat before he went down.

The "karma" is all Heat-related and not specific to one player, or it should be. I guess "karma" is the wrong way to describe what's happening. A reversal of fortune, maybe? There's something over on ESPN too about how LBJ is experiencing problems with his declining fanbase outside of Miami. This team has to play like FIRE to start shutting people up.

Miller was pretty washed up the last 2 years- injuries be damned. I was very surprised the Heat offered him the MLE.

I don't think he's THAT important but it does bring up the fact that the Heat are really thin. If such an injury hit one of the big three, they are toast. If it hits 2, this team is no better than the Knicks.

Top 7 players - all of these #s include 2-3 games for rest
Lebron - 6 games
Bosh - 5 games
Wade - 8 games
Miller - 19-25 games
Haslem - 2 or 3 games
Big Z - 2 or 3 games
Howard - 2 or 3 games

He's still a very good shooter, which is what he's there for, and to grab a couple boards here and there. The remaining outside shooters are either undersized or just horrid defensively. As I said before, Miller is like Rondo for the Celts (or perhaps Robinson/Davis this past year), he was their X Factor, even after the big 3 are guarded, there's still a chance he's open someone to stick a dagger 3.
Can they win without him? Absolutely. But someone who can consistently score 10-15 points, shoot 50% from three, 80% from the line, grab 6 boards and dish out 3-4 assists is nothing to scoff at. That's essentially adding a grittier, better shooting Turkoglu to a big 3.

Cavs fan here, we dont seem to have the passion on our board that you guys do here so I thought I would weigh in here. The first thing I thought was "Karma" as well. I dont root for players to get injured, but I certainly wont feel bad at all if Miami has a rash of injuries that derail all of their hopes and dreams.

Reports out of Miami are that he sustained the injury after being jumped and beaten by a bunch of guys.

before he knows it Bosh might have to pretend to be a franchise player again.

This reminds me of when Vince was happy to be third option in NJ

On a serious note I'm looking forward to seeing Boston and Miami duke it out. Should be some good battles.

Yeah....because people never use figures of speech
And as for your example above -- it'd be more like me saying "I hope to god the heat struggle this year." Which, I wouldn't have a problem uttering despite no belief in god whatsoever.

edit -- man did I ever butcher the quote.....oops.

Truth is, injuries are great and everything, but I'd much rather see them underachieve without any potential excuses........not that I suspect losing miller for a bit to really derail them much.

The difference with the Heat and the Celtics of a few years ago was Boston hung thier hat on defense so even key injuries didn't hurt them that much because the entire team bought into the system. They were one of the best coached teams in recent memory and could grind it out defensively to make every game close.

Aside from Lebron no other player on Miami really cares about defense and a couple of key injuries will kill this team. This team can easily go from title contender to also ran if Lebron goes down for an extended time. Although Wade has a ring he never really led the team to playoff success without Shaq in the middle to let him run free.

I really don't think he's THAT kind of player anymore. In Memphis, yes. In Washington, where he was last year, he definitely wasn't (as I said before, injuries be damned). Still surprised they gave Miller an MLE.

But you've got to agree that they are 2 similar type of injuries like this to one of the big three to be as bad/mediocre as the Knicks. Just not enough depth there.

I disagree, his rookie year, they took a much better Pacers team to 6 games in the second round. People were expecting them to lose in the first round. Besides the Shaq years, he hasn't had a very good cast.

Another excuse for Bosh's poor play.
