But it's a dangerous game, depending on the return for OG and Siakam at the trade deadline. A couple of late firsts for both of them - even if offered - isn't too enticing. I'd prefer to at least keep OG past the deadline, and see how things work without Pascal. But if we continue to suck without immediate hope of improvement, OG could very well walk in free agency.

Or we can tank this and next year. Not worth it do waste another year, in fact we could just end up giving the spurs no first round pick if they still suck in 2026.

I never really thought we'd be this bad to have this be a real possibility

Top 6 protected 2025
Top 6 protected 2026

Then it becomes 2 seconds.

Yikes

Honestly what would be brilliant would be trading a Poeltl for a 1st round pick. Tanking in 2024-2026. So in essence we trade away two 2nd round picks for a 1st round pick. F the Spurs.

I could stomach watching Gradey/Scottie/koloko/2024 draft pick this team is hard to watch.

What do you win? The team will be worse...and players will be asking out.

What are they winning now??

What players will be asking out? lol whose left? They would be trading Siakam/OG/Poeltl in this scenario. Scottie has another year on his deal and would be an RFA he can't go anywhere. They're bottom 10 anyways so whats the big deal about being bottom 5.

They naturally suck already.

When the last thread was open before it got locked for some reason I focused on the draft after this one (the Cooper Flagg draft) because I assumed this year’s pick will go to the spurs. But we just might keep the pick if we keep losing like this to inferior teams.

Well, the advantage of Scottie is him being cheap right now. He wont be in 2026.

Right, but who are going to be his running mates in 2026? We can see this core is going nowhere. And I don't see Siakam/OG fetching a Kawhi like player in his prime on a long term deal to pair with Scottie.

So what option do we have left to build around Scottie?

How'd the Bucks build around Giannis...add more talent.

Fool me once and all

the Gasol trade wasn't big?

the Ibaka trade. the Gay trade. the Bargnani trade. the Vasquez trade.

what's your definition of big trade?

If those are considered big trades, there are 50 big trades a year in the league, lol. Role players for role players is not something anybody considers big, even if it did end up having a big effect (and they did). Those are "around the margin trades" where we were great 2014-2019. Our around the margin trades since (Thad Young, Poeltl) have been pretty bad since

Gasol was the perfect 5, not a role player.

lol And that's the problem w ppl who are against tanking.

Theyre gonna over value everyone on their team so they'll never want to tank

Ya we don’t have a Giannis. Scottie can be great but he’s nowhere near that level. How exactly are they adding talent, this team doesn’t have many trade assets left.

Scottie's numbers are comperable, in fact he's a waaaaay better shooter at this age.

Bruin wrote:I’d rather keep this year’s pick and convey next year. My hope is next year Scottie will take another leap and we’re ready to make a push to be a young rising team and reach the playoffs as a lower seed.

I don’t wanna finish with the #7 pick and lose it this year just to get the #10 pick next year

I’d much rather get #6 and add a piece next to Scottie (and whatever we get in return from a Pascal trade) and convey a 15 pick next year

Tank away

My ideal situation is we tank both years. Add two studs (hopefully one if not both are blue chip) and then in Scottie’s last couple years we put a winning product around him with these two as part of the core. So when he becomes a ufa he stays.

We should have started this process two years ago like most sane teams would have but this is the situation we’re in.

tWo thread has made sense to keep open basically for the last three years straight. lol

Anyways. What’s up peeps!!!!!!

Only thing keeping my interest this year is whether we can suck bad enough to keep the pick and whether our pathetic FO can salvage any value for our pending free agents.

Let’s lose, lose, lose.

I want us to tank until we only have to convey two 2nds to the Spurs. We have to correct Masai's mistake the hard way. I have the stomach to tank 3 seasons more, including this season.

The easiest way out of this predicament is just to trade Siakam for a 24 1st. Tanking won't have a direct correlation to the pick but it will atleast give the losing somewhat of a direction.

The raptors currently have 3 of the 25 best players in the eastern conference on our team, Scottie arguably a top 10. If Masai wanted to tank he wouldn't have traded the pick to begin with. Tanking in this fashion just doesn't make any sense. :-? Were going to tank and convey a Shaedon Sharpe level prospect to the spurs for Jakob Poetl, please no.

This is not the year to tank. Rather cut our losses and have the pick back for 2025.

Return to Toronto Raptors
