Our group looks easy but it's really not lol. Nets and Magic the type of try hard teams to actually really care about this thing

If they use divisions then the groups would be the same every year.

A random draw keeps it fresh every year.

they should have shortened season and added tournament in the middle.
having games count for both, (and its only 4 group stage games) makes it useless

a 72 game season
8 game tournament

then add the 2 games to the 22 teams not making the tournament playoffs (as is the current plan)

Larry OB will always be more prestigious than an NBA cup when talking about a player's accomplishments. I can see good teams with fragile/unfit players taking advantage of this tournament by purposely tanking. Unless there's real incentive being an NBA cup champion like guaranteeing home court advantage for the winner, then this feels like a gimmick.

Prize money? That's it?

A bunch of multi millionaires play for 500k. So exciting.

This is just a cash grab by the NBA trying to get more money from tickets sales/TV.

You can watch already wealthy players win some pocket money so they can buy their next supercar.

I am not going to criticize until I see how it goes cause there is a tendency to just hate on anything that's new. I'll wait and see.

But one question that hasn't been clarified is how the scheduling for teams that make the knockout phase will be handled later. They will apparently be playing two games to get to the finals. The "quarter final" game will have to be rescheduled I assume from a game later in the initial schedule release if a team makes it that far. If a team makes the semi-final in Vegas, they will be playing a regular season game in Vegas and might lose a home date it appears. That has quite a bit different value depending on the team involved. Losing a home date as the Hornets is probably a win but not so much for the Warriors. The rescheduling of games for those advancing to knockout games will be interesting.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

The league will release a 80game schedule then add games later in season.
22 teams not making tournament playoff will get 2 games added.
4 more teams will get 1 game added (teams eliminated in quarter finals)
2 eliminated in semi finals won't have any games added.
2 teams in finals will play an extra game, game 83.

Is there a trophy for this or the players just get an extra $500,000?

Thanks for the info. Still don't quite understand how they will decide the two games not initially scheduled and who will lose a home game by making the semi-finals. In the end, I hope it all works but it seems overly complicated and messy as an idea to me.

Both. They will have all the money suspended inside a giant transparent trophy over the court and release it to the winning team like confetti after the final buzzer.

I think it's cool. Most of the NBA fans are stubborn and cry about any new thing they add like the play in.. the games count as regular season games which is good to see.

the prize should be the cash, and an auto entry into the draft lottery, with a % boost increase to your odds at a higher pick

Gonna be so funny when a team like the Clippers or Grizzlies hang their first banner with this

These guys get into fights over 50k gambling debts, they still care about money.
