Raptors RealGM Mock Draft: The Pistons select...

Post#1 » by vini_vidi_vici » Tue May 25, 2010 12:37 am

Next on the clock is the Detroit Pistons. This should be a very polarizing pick like last, I think it all depends on whos going out this summer, but I think they go for a pivot or 4. Ill take Greg Monroe.

Roster
Signed: Richard Hamilton (G-F), Tayshaun Price (F), Ben Gordon (G), Charlie Villanueva (F), Jason Maxiell (F-C), Rodney Stuckey (G), Austin Daye (G-F), Chris Wilcox *(C).
*Player Option.

Mock Draft Projections
Cole Aldrich - NBADraft.net

Greg Monroe - DraftExpress.com

Al-Fahrouq Aminu - ESPN.com

(not updated, says DET in the 7!)Wesley Johnson - HoopDoctors
Wes has prototypical size and skill to help right away at the SF position. At Syracuse, he showed the ability to do a little of everything but excelled in the open floor. Offensively he has 3 pt range but is average at best when it comes to ball-handling. Was sometimes to unselfish and is probably seen as a complimentary player in the NBA rather than a go-to-guy and needs to add weight. Has potential as a plus defender. Could start immediately on right offensive system. Comparison: Tayshawn Prince

Greg Monroe. Dumars likes the tall lanky players who can do alot (ie: Tayshaun, Austin Daye). Monroe can pass for score for a big man. I think they take the Gtown product.

As a Pistons fan, I like Davis. I see him as a good two way player, with good shot-blocking potential and a decent pick-and-roll potential. I still see the Pistons as a long way off, so I'd be interested in a high potential guy following such a disappointing season. And to tell you the truth I ate up the Ben Wallace connection.

Other guys people on our board like are Monroe, Aminu (he's gone though), Udoh, and some like Aldrich some hate him. Personally I'll be ok if he is our pick. I bet Monroe would be the pick if this was just Piston's fans.
Count that baby and a foul!

I dont get why its easily Cole. I think he goes to the Warriors the pick before, but having said that, Dumars has always put a premium on athleticism and Cole isnt that. Hes grinder defensive center with limited offensive game, infact all his stats regressed last year with the emergence of X-Man. If they are replacing Ben, maybe they scoop him up, but its far from a lock.

It should be Monroe, but I said Whiteside because I think Dumars will prefer the size and upside. Plus, Joe never makes the safe pick.

Stopped reading right there, have you watched the Warriors brass build their team lately? Wow.

Cole

For some reason Patrick Patterson seems like a Piston though.

I think they'll go with Cole Aldrich. There 4 spot is already secured with jason Maxiel and Charlie V. Right now i doubt Wallace is going to be the same player if he is resigned. Chris Wilcox is more of a back up and Kwame Brown is going to be out of this league. They already have the guard position secured if with hamilton, gordon and stuckey (granted if they avoid the injury bug next season). The wing is covered with Prince, Jerekbo and Daye.

Well reading clearly isnt your strong suit, because ESPN is a credible source arent they? And as seen yesterday Chad Ford had the Warriors taking Aldrich. Regardless, it seems likely they are trading the pick away, and the lack of ownership does mean they have no direction in building yet.

Edit: I could also say the same for Detroit, when have they ever had a unathletic big man in the Dumars era?

I also want to note one thing I neglected on the Pistons roster above, Jonas Jerebko has a team option, so he'll definately be picked up, but I usually just use the signed players on Sham.

I read faster than you and have a larger vocabulary by a lot. ESPN is a credible source but a mock draft means nothing, in case you didn't watch the pre-draft combine coverage, Chad Ford stated his mock draft would change many times before the draft. So, you wanna keep digging your grave deeper or are you gonna STFU?

He will change it, but as of today and yesterday he has them picking Aldrich, so your point is moot. Your self-professed large vocabulary and reading comprehension are admirable, its sad you need to convince me of it. Anyways since youre using insults, instead of a relevant argument, ill shut up.

No way Pistons take Cole. Maybe Monroe, maybe trade down if they can't move into the top 4.
