2011 NBA Draft Combine Discussion

Post#1 » by Eating a Book » Thu May 19, 2011 8:14 pm

Reports are trickling in from the draft combine, which started yesterday and runs through Sunday.

List of participants: http://www.nbadraft.net/2011-nba-draft-combine-list

Jonathan Givony's Twitter: http://www.draftexpress.com/twitter.php

Chad Ford's Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/chadfordinsider

Combine Measurements: Click here, maybe.

Surprises so far:

Darius Morris is tall!

Kenneth Faried can rebound!

Measurements, I believe, should be showing up soon, as they were taken this morning. Athletic testing tomorrow. You're welcome to hold your breath until then, but I'll personally be breathing, and probably sleeping pretty well. I may have a beer. It's pretty nice outside.

Post anything combine related you find, discuss away, laugh, cry, dance. This is why we're here.

Jonathan Givony at DraftExpress is there, obviously, and his Twitter feed is that wonderful combination of informative AND kind of hilarious.

Tristan Thompson was apparently measured at 6'9'' without shoes. I think that's pretty surprising.

Chad Ford's Twitter. Another good one. Link in the main post.

"Enes Kanter impressed GMs here. Looked more athletic than they thought. Marshon Brooks looked great too. Ditto Kenneth Faried."

It's unfortunate that most of the top guys aren't participating in drills. Kemba & Kawhi are sitting around in street clothes. They've been discussing how agents are advising them to skip it to avoid injury or looking bad on an off day.

They are doing 50 minute sessions by position with shooting drills, fast break drills and even some conditioning. It's still a good chance to see some if some of later lotto guys will move or target someone to buy a pick for. I'm liking a few of the players in the SF crop. We could give a rookie some run at that position next year if Kleiza is still out.

Jordan Hamilton & Marcus Morris are probably too good, could easily go top 10.

Tobias Harris doesn't have an ideal skill-set for the 3 but Chad Ford sees him as a Shane Battier type intangible guy.

Tyler Honeycutt is athletic, can score and lead the Pac 10 in blocks as a Freshman.

For me, Chris Singleton is the guy. ACC Defensive POY, solid jump shot and just fantastic all around athlete. I'd be overjoyed if BC found a way to buy a pick for him. The 4's are stepping onto the court now.

Chad Ford is there, and he still insists Jonas, even that is right after BC's short interview with one of the reporters, and even the anchor questions Ford's decision on putting Jonas Val over Walker.

BC said he is looking at the 2 PGs (Knight and Walker), then mentioned Kenta as the Euro, and I don't recall he mentioned anything much.

That article is sourcing Bleacher Report... doesn't mean it's not true, but we might have to wait to see the list on DX tomorrow.

Keith_Langlois Keith Langlois
Tristan Thompson measured 6-foot-9 in shoes this morning, he told me. Says he'd be a great fit next to Greg Monroe.

That guy writes for the official Pistons website.

GeryWoelfel Gery Woelfel
Bucks draft prospect Tristan Thompson of Texas measured out at 6-9 with shoes, 6-7 1-2 without. Has 7-2 wing span.

Oh, sorry didn't realize that.

Well, I guess that's not much of a surprise then.

So it's something like this?

#2
Rubio
Beasley

for

#15
Granger

Would that even work?

If Minnesota does that deal for Granger, David Kahn should just be fired on the spot. I'm not sure I'd give up Rubio and Beasley straight up for Granger, nevermind including the #2 pick to do it.

That's ridiculously lopsided, I don't understand why Minny would do this--but it wouldn't surprise me. Which is exactly why I think we should try to get involved somehow, perhaps with Bargs/Jose (although they like don't want them).

This is the first time we've seen Kanter play competitively against talented big men in a looong time.

Enes towers over Jordan Williams. Williams is listed at 6'10" but I'm having a hard time believing that.

Good for TT measuring out at 6'9" without shoes, 7'2" wingspan. Should dismiss any concerns about him being undersized.
