Nash & Barbosa signing with Raptors a possibility?

Post#1 » by goodjoey » Tue Mar 13, 2012 9:19 pm

Folks just discuss the thread on the merits that Nash and Barbosa "could" sign with the Raptors. Leave the "source" aspect of it alone and we'll let the thread stay open. -itbobby007

Just got off the phone with a source in Toronto,

He said we will very likely make a hefty 2 year offer to Captain Canada in the off season, didn't go into specifics but he said that to round out our roster after the signing we would have to let go or trade one or more of our front court assets.

He also mentioned that Barbosa will get an offer from us as well, short term, but hefty. He was very clear that as of right now the intention is to increase our SF depth through draft/trade.

He is also unsure of Bayless/Calderon future here in toronto but said that he would be shocked if both were here next season, especially if we do make a solid offer to nash and he accepts.

Nash/Calderon/Bayless
DD/Barbosa
Free agent or Draft pick/ JJ/ Klieza
Bargs/ ED (?)
Val/ Amir (?)

what are we missing? does that team make it to the 2nd round?

Definitely sounds like your typical Raptor fail move. We'll probably re-sign Magloire and trade for Cory Joseph while we're at it.

Nash will prolly sign for 2 million or whatever with Miami and roflstomp his way to a championship.

rather than talking smack, how about we have a real discussion about a real possibility for the raps? its more reliable than any other "source" on this forum. Answer the question i posed, or be a troll - makes no difference to me, but for the sake of our community how about you stop acting like assknobs?

I'm curious to know how this source is connected to the Raptors.

although i don't think its completely relevant to the question i posed about us being a 2nd round playoff team, the source is an assistant to a scout who has worked for our organization for over 3 years. His "opinion" rarely gets aknowledged, but his ears are always open, especially around club meetings, and he always gives me tid bits of info, but for the first time, i think he may be on to something.

You really think this is the first time the possibility of signing Steve Nash to a 2 year deal has been discussed? We've had several discussions on it in the past few days.

Okay fine. I would actually really look forward to resigning barbosa and signing nash. I think barbosa adds a huge spark off the bench and has turned around a few games for us this season. Nash will be the best pg we have ever had and I think he has the legs for 3+ years still (hes like kidd but better).

Nash is coming, I have been saying this for a few years now. What do we need?

PG: Nash / Jose or Dragic / Kabongo
SG: DD / Lamb / Barbosa
SF: Gerald Wallace or Nic Batum or Grant Hill or Derrick Brown(BC liked him) / James / LK
PF: Brags / Davis / Amir
C: Jonas / Amir / Grey

This is a very deep young squad and IMHO could get to the second round.

Ugh. I like Steve Nash too much to see him waste the end of his career here.

no, but for the first time there is actually merit in it. not just you losers asking unfounded hypotheticals and fapping to raptor fantasies.

and besides, THAT IS NOT what my question was, i was asking if you think that team above would make it to the 2nd round, or if you think we'd still need something else.

I immediately regret sharing my insight/divulging any info to you homers. Meh, lesson learned

Barbosa has said he likes it in Toronto and wouldn't mind re-signing with them. I think BC also may have mentioned bringing him back next year. I think it's already a done deal. I was actually thinking about Weems filling that role next year if Barbosa wasn't coming back, but yeah...

Batum won't sign here. He hates the Raptors for ruining his draft position.

Well, you would have to understand that you are using the internet where anyone can have a "source" anywhere. However, most people who come on claiming they have insider info are usually talking "to their armpits."

And it is no real surprise that Colangelo will be offering Nash and Barbosa some money. You don't need an uncle in the clubhouse to figure that out.

It would be a mistake to sign both Barbosa and Nash to any sort of contract. Nash isn't the best defender and he is already on the decline. Barbosa is a chucker, who is better suited on a playoff bound team that needs some speed and instant bench offence. Right now, we need to figure out if we are to move forward with DD, JJ, Bayless, and Ed. All four of those core pieces have gigantic question marks surrounding them. Nash alone cannot solve those problems for us.

great points, and i agree completely. I think Nash is the right type of guard we need with a Big C like Val, and add calderon into that mix and you have a SOLID PG lineup. Hopefully we can either keep calderon or draft/sign a similar product with legs (Kabongo seems to be a fav on these boards)
