OT - The sheer stupidity of Amare's injury

Post#1 » by The Watcher » Sat May 5, 2012 4:59 am

The fact that Amare was paid 100 million or whatever to lead NY to playoff glory makes the stupidity of his actions more magnified. Where do you think his knuckle-slapping a fire extinguisher ranks among the stupidest actions by a player/coach during the playoffs?

I can think of a Raptors example to keep this somewhat on-topic: Butch Carter suing an opposing player as the playoffs begin and causing a near mutiny. Please discuss other instances of playoff stupidity.

Well according to Amare, it was not his fault and that fire extinquisher shouldn't have been there.

There should be a stupidity clause for NBA contracts. Anyone who does something really stupid gets reviewed by a panel that can grant contract-cancellation rights to their team (one-time optional opportunity). The NBA does seem to have the highest amount of complete fools compared to the other major sports, ranging from financial fools, fools making horrible decisions, all the way to being Delonte West.

More like a nightmare. I bet even the haters would want Bargnani over Amare. He's atrocious defensively and doesn't know the single meaning of boxing out, and his biggest strength scoring is only as good as whatever point guard he works with.

It was a stupid move because he injured his hand but punching or kicking something is something many players and people in general have done in times of frustration since the beginning of time. In his case it was a crash course in anger management.

Meh, this is overblown. First, the Knicks were losing the series anyway. Second, guys are risking injury all the time for showtime dunks and whatnot. He injured himself because after losing game 2, he was so pissed because he knew the 2011-2012 season was over for him. He was mad. Fans get mad in those situations, too. It's nice to know a player is actually that mad, too.

Delonte West isn't a fool.

He suffers from bi-polar disorder.

It wasn't really stupid. Injuring yourself riding a moped like Monta Ellis did is stupid. What Amare did was just an unfortunate accident resulting from frustration.

Monta Ellis and his moped? Not playoffs per se, but still stupid.

If I remember correctly, then Raptors head coach Butch Carter filed a defamation of character suit against former Raptor Marcus Camby (a Knick at the time) ... took some of the focus away from what was a lopsided series sweep for New York in the Raptors first playoff appearance in franchise history.

with the amare situation, the more details that come out the more you realize it was just a freak accident, it happens in the heat of the moment, everyone should be glad it didn't end up being worse though

Then he shouldn't be playing. Incidents like his gun charges can lead to negative things especially with his "bipolar disease".

The OP said to "Please discuss other instances of playoff stupidity," I don't know why you gotta be an ass about it.

Pretty sure he shot the ball bad that game, missed the last shot, his team lost. At the time it was the most important game of his career and the raptors franchise, and he takes the morning off? I dunno seems kinda dumb to me
