James Johnson on the block?

Post#1 » by r3dturtl3 » Sun Jul 8, 2012 6:48 am

Ryan Wolstat ‏@WolstatSun
I don't have specifics on why James Johnson will be gone, just that it would be a major surprise if he is a Raptor next season.

Tim Chisholm ‏@timpchisholm
@WolstatSun It’s because he and the coaching staff have very different opinions of what kind of player he is/should be.

Ryan Wolstat ‏@WolstatSun
@timpchisholm Yes that's a big part of it.

Didn't see it posted. Pretty interesting regarding his role on the team. Would be a shame if he were traded, he's a good defensive player.

Well James Johnson by himself wont be able to fetch you much. Its pretty obvious our other trade pieces (Jose, Demar, Ed, Amir) along with JJ is being shopped for a fringe all-star type player (iggy, gay). We dont need any more role players!

I personally like JJ better than Fields, but i guess management sees otherwise.

JJ probably thought he was more LeBron James than R.Artest.

I doubt it was that, he seemed pretty level headed. I think Casey just didnt like his attitude, for whatever reason. But JJs game speaks for itself. It sucks things couldnt work out, he's better than LFields and much cheaper. BC wasted our money and cap on Fields. Wasnt very smart of him.

It doesn't make sense having both Fields and James Johnson at the same position. They'll average like 10 PPG between the 2 of them.

I thought the argument had something to do with James not happy with Casey after he got subbed out. I'm guessing he let Casey know about it and that's why he never came back in.

Did the media ever report on the Bobcats game argument Casey and Johnson got in to? I swear I only know about it because someone here pointed it out...

If JJ leaves, I think it will be only for what happened in that game....

how is JJs defense on the wing and on some 4s not needed in a 82 game season and hopefully in the playoffs, fields and linas cant guard the star 3s over long stretches...batum, ak47, iggy or gay aren't coming here, so unless we get an upgrade mind as well keep him and hope his shooting improves if not still good spot minute player at the 3 and at 2.8mill a no brainer

I have a feeling this move is more about doing James Johnson and Dwane Casey a favor because they seem to have clashed the past season. They could always stick it out and hope they conform to each other, but with BC signing Fields he perhaps saw Johnson was expendable.

guys if you read in between the lines last season - JJ felt he should have the ball in his hands more as a facilitator - it's that simple.

Clearly defense is the difference between winning and losing for this team.

Its gonna be interesting JJ is a Colangelo guy and Casey doesn't like him. It will be
interesting to see who wins out. Colangelo could convince Casey to give him another shot.
Casey likes to control the offense and call every play where James Johnson likes to freestyle
and thats where the beef started. Casey wants him to play a role JJ doesn't want handcuffs.

Hes still great value for his contract

This is the stupidest **** ever.

BC will have no excuses if Fields turns out to be **** and JJ goes somewhere else and explodes into an impact player.

And he was right. JJ leading the fast break was a thing of beauty. Any of our other wings the last two years (Juju excepted) not so much.

It's weird that three of my favourite players in the last two seasons - JJ, Julian Wright and Bayless - have no place on this team. OK, Casey identified that the team needs shooters. Maybe Wright was never gonna learn to shoot, but JJ was getting better at it. And Bayless was our best outside shooter last year. I. Just. Don't. Understand.

They're better be some big overall improvements this season, or I'm officially giving up on this team under Colangelo. And Casey seems like a great coach, but may be too inflexible in how he sees players (Jose = starter, Bayless = Jet, JJ = big body).
