Post: Larry Tanenbaum and BC's dad helped save his job?

Post#1 » by Rhettmatic » Wed May 22, 2013 12:06 am

And since Colangelo is a natural meddler, and he will still have an office in the same building, and he has a deeply vested interest in his plan working out — not only for any future basketball jobs, but in terms of his own stubborn pride — well, Leiweke said it’s up to him to make sure this works, which for a man with a lot to do doesn’t sound like the kind of make-work structure he would happily create. Leiweke says this is his decision, but the fingerprints of minority owner Larry Tanenbaum are all over this.

For the Raptors, the why remains muddy. Some believe Bryan’s father, Jerry, weighed in on his behalf; Jerry is an NBA power, with close ties to the league office, which Leiweke says he consulted. Leiweke said the team wanted to re-brand itself as it heads to the 20th anniversary, with a focus on its bid for the 2016 All-Star Game. It is probably not a good idea to alienate some of the most powerful people in the league, if that is part of Leiweke’s plan.

With as much pride as he has, I'm very surprised he didn't walk. I personally can't see him being here for more that 1 year.

Does anyone know how long they extended him for?

Completely believable, and that's why BC and this organization need to part ways yesterday. He couldn't hold on to his job on his own merit, and had to call daddy and surrogate daddy at MLSE to keep it. This was, after all, BC's first gig out from under his father's shadow, and he failed. Now he's leveraging the clout of his last name that his father established. BC has certainly contributed, I'm not taking away from his accomplishments, but they didn't have enough pull to save him.

I'm just listening to TL on Sportsnet, and he's not happy. Sounds like a guy who has to make the best of this situation that has been interfered with.

I can't wait until this snake slithers away from the Raptors organization.

It cuts both ways. Want to bet this deal secures the 2016 ASG for Toronto? Leiweke wants that so badly he can taste it.

This is bull.

The guy is a millionaire, he doesn't need Daddy to stand up for him and make him a lame duck.

And Tennenbaum can meddle for a year, can secure a advisor role, but not a President title.

This article is as good as what we have speculated here. There is clearly something else going on here.

This.

The whole father angle so unbelievably exaggerated and ridiculous that at this point it's just pathetic to read or hear this crapola.
