Casey: Ross has the most upside on the team

Post#1 » by Bank Shot » Thu Aug 22, 2013 12:58 am

http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2013-08-21/dwyane-case-raptors-coaching-record-contract-rudy-gay-demar-derozan-terrence-ros?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Casey called Ross one of the most talented players he has ever coached, and added, “He probably has the most upside of all our guys from a potential standpoint.”

“The talent is there,” Casey said. “There is not a better athlete in the NBA than Terrence Ross. But just, bringing it on a consistent basis is his own personal challenge. We pushed him as a coaching staff and work with him till the cows come home, but until he makes up his mind mentally that he is going to exert that same athleticism and effort on both ends of the floor, that’s when he will make the next step. … He has been working with a shooting coach this summer, trying to get that consistent, working on his shot. His ballhandling, his defense in pick-and-roll situations, he has been working on that all summer.”

Obviously he's forgetting about a certain C on the team but these are some pretty big words from Casey. It will be interesting to see if Casey gives him the opportunity to show us what he's got. Your expectations for Ross this year?

This bozzo is always saying stupid ****. I would rather hear RealGM users make their yearly playoff predictions than hear Casey talk about anything.

Mute this guy.

More upside than Val? I think even Ross would find that comment ridiculous.

This can only mean two things :

a) Ross is struggling/unhappy and he needs some encouragement

b) Building toward a potential trade down the line.

Otherwise this is completely ridiculous statement to make, considering hes not even a top 5 player on this team. Yes the same team projected to miss the playoffs again.

I thought people should know by now that Ross was a Casey pick, not by BC. If anything, the blame should be squarely on Casey for 1. advising his pick and 2. for screwing up his development.

I'm by no means a Casey supporter (I want him gone), but I find it hilarious how most of you people hate on the guy for saying something that could be completely true, but you just don't want to believe it. None of you guys know what goes on in practice or his work ethic or what type of shape he is in this year. It's just automatically assumed that Casey is "stupid" because Ross had a rough year.

I hope this kid proves most of the posters wrong on here because he has some really good tools, but Realgm is where people come to hate and sh*t on guys, even rookies which is ridiculous.
Been with it since the Eric Montross days. Pape Sow is a legend.

Lol, he's saying that because he's the one who recommended BC to get ross in the first place.

Let me see if I can translate:

If your max is a 7 and you are playing at a 1, you can improve +6.

If another guy's max is an 9 and is playing at a 4, he can only improve +5.

IOW, Ross has so much upside because he's so bad right now

Casey is just trying to give Ross some confidence. Still don't think anyone is that dumb to drink that kool-aid though.

Can't wait for Masai to get a new coach (Stan Van Gundy sounds good).

Hopefully he's just trying to raise Ross's trade value, MU probably told Casey too build him up so we can package him for some picks otherwise I think Casey has gone insane.
Masai's to do list

well, define upside.
i mean, if you're down in the s****r like Ross was for most of last year, then yes, his upside (relative to others) is huge.

Exactly what I was going to say. Translation: He's so bad that he can't possibly stink this much, so he can only go 'up' from here...

Sounds like Colangelo's soul entered Casey's body when he was replaced by Ujiri. He's still here "shiver".
