Dwane Casey's Guide to Smallball

Post#1 » by Schad » Wed Nov 6, 2013 2:44 am

For people who only superficially understand basketball, it might seem confusing, even irritating, that Dwane Casey insists on going small when we're getting to the rim at will and dominating the offensive glass, or benching Amir when he's the only player on the team with a positive +/-.

This is a thread where the more knowledgeable among us can educate the casual fans on the sort of situations which will lead an intelligent coach like Casey to go small, conveyed in that most authoritative of media: gifs of Dwane Casey with his coaching face on.

He went away from everything that was working offensively tonight. Our defense eventually fell apart in the 2nd half.

We have NO system offensively whatsoever.

It's pretty funny...

He makes everyone on our roster seem useless. He's not a coach that has a set goal in his mind, he rather waits for the other team to show where they're heading and than adjusts. Of course, that adjustment is always SMALL BALL + BENCH PLAYERS.

It's 'defensive' coaching, if you get my drift.

That's what it looks like, because you are a pleb and do not understand how to win basketball games.

Look at that coaching face. Really look at it. He isn't even coaching at that moment, and his face is still coaching.

Bench Amir Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas. Landry and Tyler can handle it.

I like the Raps going small more than most seem to, however it's limited to lineups that include Fields and have Amir at the 5.

Tonight was not a night to go small though.

This is more of a general philosophy:

Capitalize on your delay of game free throws!

Amir is not small enough for a centre.. better get Hansbrough

He's even got the coaching cap on, how can you not trust him

These are not memes, they are episodes of Casey's guide to being a successful coach. NBA.com replaced Red Auerbach's videos with these.
