Salary based on actual performance

Post#1 » by OhMyBosh » Mon Jul 21, 2014 7:51 pm

Not sure if anyone ventured onto the reddit NBA page lately, but I thought this post was interesting enough to share here.

Here's a comparison of actual salary and salary based on performance (win shares):

It's worth nothing that all our top performers were paid less than what they should actually be earning, or in other words, overachievers. Last year, we didn't overpay anyone to get significant production from them. The toughest pill to swallow is Landry Fields, but we've been writing him off since day 1.

Poor Landry.

Worst part is, he must've got some money from Sony as well for that local Playstation Vita promotion they had on Raptors TV.

Landry Fields probably lost Sony money. After seeing his commercials there was no way I was gonna get one.

Love the value we're getting out of JV. Where are the haters again?

Looks like Lowry is still underpaid, even with his new contract.

$70M and we don't have a superstar....

Still not bad... just hate paying bench players $6M+

Derrick's great.... at playing in Team USA Mini Camps.

He's just not a regular season kinda guy.

Kind of misleading. I mean, Landry is below his value by so much because we don't play him, plus he was hurt. This is a function of playing time and production. If you don't get playing time, you aren't going to produce.

Mind you, I'm not an advocate of playing Landry more, nor am I saying he deserves his contract.

I agree with you but we weren't in contention to sign a "superstar" this year, or any other year for that matter, until we show consistency.

In the meantime, nearly all of our players are very tradeable as we don't have any bad contracts. Even the ones that appear bad are expiring this year and can be used for teams wishing to dump salary.

Yeah, you must have to skimp on meals and entertainment when you shell out for those bench players.

...wait, you're just some guy on the internet who isn't responsible for player salaries? Weird. Could swear with your comment it personally effected you...

It's hilarious reading predictions regarding Chicago. Obviously if Rose becomes MVP Rose, then Chicago will be a top team in the conference, but are people banking more on a guy who has pretty much not played in two years, and in the ten games he played last year was pretty bad and a ways away from being his old productive self, or banking on a team with two sophomores starting in the playoffs, a 24 year old all-star and a huge amount of depth who were a shot away from the semis?

lol what? Are you new to the term Salary Cap? or have any understanding of how NBA finance works?

Oh wait, you're just some guy on the Internet who probably lives in his mom's basement.

I'm actually one of those people that think Chicago got better by adding Gasol and even Rose at 50% is better than no rose at all :)

I just like poking fun at his absences.

Almost all of the negative value contracts are due to smaller negative contracts obtained to offset BC's larger mistakes (Bargnani, Gay). And of course Fields.

Gasol is better than Boozer but not by much. Rose vs DJ is no contest but comeback Rose vs playing out of his mind DJ is a lot closer.
