How has Demar Derozan's work ethic influenced your life?

Post#1 » by Traps13 » Sun Nov 9, 2014 5:11 pm

I want to start off by saying that I"ve been watching the Raptors for as long as I can remember. Players have come and gone, but no one has influenced me in the way Demar has. Lets forget for one second all the negatives we criticize his game for here on realgm. But just his work ethic how has it influenced your life? I used to be a lazy S.O.B not caring about my health or what I wanted to do with my life. Since Demar was drafted I followed him closely I immediately fell in love with his work ethic. Staying at home watching game footage instead of partying on New Years or using his left hand all off season just to get an edge on the court. I admired his work ethic and decided I wanted that too. I changed my life I hit the gym I studied hard I didn't let anything get in the way of what I wanted. I went from 210lb to 165lb. My first year of university I did horrible, but second year I improved a bit by third and fourth year I was thinking of medical school. I am now a UFT med school student. I want to take this time to thank Demar Derozan for showing me just how far hard work can get you even if you don't have the natural talent.

So my question is how has Demar Derozan's work ethic influenced your life? :)

He has motivated me certainly. I'm committed to racking up my And1 count to compensate for my depressing life.

I decided to start "dribbling" with my other hand thanks to Demar's summer regiment.

He's also inspired me to start working on my ball control; I want to be able to really take it to the hole the same way he does.

Good story. I followed the Vince Carter example. I had great talent, which I coasted on, and when I wanted to switch companies I decided I wanted to be fired so I would qualify for severance pay. I severely tanked my value to my former company, was fired, got my severance , and now have a posh job, no awards mind you, but a posh job which I will ride into retirement. Life is great!

The man is 37 Years old. I thought I was no longer bitter; guess I was wrong.

time is one thing pro ball players have....regular folks don't

i mastered my dribble game watching rafer alston and hot sauce when i was in HS because i had all the time to do so. i was playing basketball for hours everyday and would run home in time to catch the raptors game.

but once you have all these commitments your passion turn into a spare time activity.

Glad to hear that you took it upon yourself to turn things around. I've always believed that everybody has the power to do whatever they want to do with their life. They just have to focus & work hard.....but they have to make that choice to do so. Sometimes you have to filter other things out in your life....all the garbage that had a negative influence on success. That might mean less partying & it might even mean dropping some acquaintances that are dead weight.

I can't say anyone in particular influenced me to become successful, but I can tell you that sports in general taught me how to reach goals & work hard.

My grades weren't all that great in highschool, but I loved Volleyball & Basketball. I busted my tail in practice & wanted to become better & win at all costs. It eventually earned me an MVP award in my senior year.

It wasn't until post secondary that I realized that I could do anything I wanted with school & my career. I just had to use the same principles that I used to become better at sports (hard worker, dedicated & goal oriented). Once I realized that & stuck with those principles, I became an honor student.

I've changed careers twice & have done very well in each field.

Yes his work ethic has inspired me to become a video game baller because I will never become an NBA player.

I've enjoyed watching the Raptors a lot more over the past year.

That's about the only change he has made in my life.

Big fan of this team and I think they are hard workers, but this whole agenda of pushing every one as a gym rat is propaganda by the organization. We have being hearing this for years. I think most players are professionals who work hard on their games and the key differentiating factor is physical/natural talent.

Since demar got drafted I followed the Raptors more closely and I became obsessed. I lost my job, my girl, my house and now the Raptors are good and I don't even have a laptop or a TV to watch them play, let alone enough money to buy tickets. I usually just walk over to Maple Leafs square and watch them play if I had a good day pan handling at Dundas Square. Thanks Demar.

Id say he's inspired me... He's inspired me to yell at him in front of the screen with the amount of boneheaded plays hes made over the course of the game. Thanks demar
