Not sure what is so shocking.

I think most posters feel the Raps don't have a good chance of advancing to the second round.

Cavs, Hawks, Bulls, Heat, Wiz would all be very difficult opponents in the 1st round.

Unless you were being sarcastic :)

Going with 50. I like this team a lot better than last year.
one of the major things added that we severely lacked last year was mental toughness. Carroll, biyombo, scola, Joseph, Powell? are all guys who aren't going to take their foot off the gas pedal once we get those leads. Their ability to stay focused will be key because we all saw how the ISO offence took a big dip when the shots were less important( had a lead).
The expected defensive improvement mixed with playing a stretch 4 should make things much easier to grind it out in the half court. Shooting around demar and (skinny/faster not bulky/bully ball)Kyle is super important

As someone else mentioned we have improved in 4 positions this year. Lowry getting in great shape with Joseph and Wright. DD getting better and Ross being his backup and them not playing out of position. DC being SF and JJ as his backup. JV getting slimmer and better with Bismack as his backup. In terms of PF we may have not gotten better but we did't get worse considering the Amir we knew and loved didn't play last year and 2Pat and Hansbrough played a lot at the 4. Defensively it is night and day. The offense will be more balanced but won't be as good statistically but will be a style that is more suited for the playoffs. Also the biggest factor why we are better is that we have been humbled. Last year we thought we were entitled to the second round and were so big headed. This year we know we will suck if he don't play the right way and hard every night.

Lol. Yes I did.

I can't see them beating one of the Cavs, Hawks, Bulls, Wiz, or Heat in the 1st round either..

i cant see atlanta staying ahead of us starting hardaway/korver on the wings
the 2/3 position is solid in the east and could really make them pay

alot of questions:

1. is lowry healthy?
2. is lowry motivated?
3. how will carroll perform?
4. how will 2pat perform as a starter?
5. how will our bench play?

i think cojo will have to play really well for us to have consistent success...

We upgraded the starting 3, backup 1, 2 (replacing Lou with Ross) and 5 positions defensively and I expect JV, Ross and DeMar (contract year) to all play better than last season. We may have lost some offensive fire power off the bench in the backup 1 and 2 spots and interior offence and defence with the departures of Vasquez, Lou and Amir but overall, the defensive upgrades far surpasses the offensive downgrades.

I expect DeMar to have an allstar-starter caliber season around 23points/5rebounds/4assist/45%FG, since this is his contract year and he's entering his "prime years". I also expect Lowry to take a step back offensively and focus more on his defence since we've added a more consistent scorer at the 3 spot and we expect JV to get more touches and get more involved offensively after his massive extension. I think he will have a 15points-8assists-4rebounds-43%FG-2.5threes this season. I expect Scola to replace Amir's offensive and defensive productions last season and Ross should have a bigger "green light" coming off the bench. I expect Carroll to replicate his production from a year ago and JV to increase his points production (with more touches) and more rebounds (more experience).

Overall, the Atlantic Division is still very weak with the exception of Boston adding a few veterans. This team should be able to go 13-3 in this division and so if they play .500 ball against the rest of the league they will achieve a mark of 46-36, which should be enough for a 5th-6th seed. Putting injuries aside, this team should be able to win 50+ games but I have a bad feeling that injuries will play a big part of next season's success.

Hypothetically speaking; If Lowry or JV goes down early and we get off to a slow start (around 5-10) and we approach the deadline with hovering around 5-7 games below .500, we could very well see Masai moving DeMar to avoid losing him for nothing and we could potentially tank the rest of the season to get a lottery pick (depending on what we get for DeMar). In this scenario we could have 2 lottery picks (assuming Nuggets and Knicks both miss the playoffs) and we could potentially move up to a top 5 pick, which might be a wet dream for the TWO guys. This might be very far fetched but my point is; anything is possible with this team and I wouldn't be surprised if they become a lottery team or a top 3 seed in the East.

46, book it. We will also put up a real fight in the firsr round unlike last year. Much tougher team more built for playoff ball than reg season

I would say we will struggle a bit more this year in the regular season, especially out of the gate. I believe we play like 14/20 on the road to start the season. Our record will be hovering around 43 wins but we will make it out of the first round. Our roster seems to be built for the post-season, when the D really tightens up.
