Thunder starters aren't so hot either. When the starters were substituted they barely made a dent. Golden State wasn't even half trying out there. They were showboating. The reason they even were in the game in the first half is that GState sleepwalked for 3 minutes in the first quarter.
OKC has some nice individual athletic talents that you would want as a part of a great team...but they only play well on one side of the ball. It's why they always get destroyed by Lebron when playing similar styles.
Are they a cohesive unit that plays both sides of the ball and dominates the opposition with their team play? No way.
I get that people love Westbrook's take no prisoner's "Lebron in his prime lower the shoulder" full court game but does he play defense? How many times did he get back cut or scored on? Why is everything about his game about the six-gun salute or offense?
How about Durant? How many times did he get backed down by Draymond with no fight? Yes Durant is an exceptional scorer with great size but he is a toothpick who isn't exactly a juggernaut on the defensive side. Notice how many games the Thunder win by 126-115 scores. When ESPN mentioned they were 12th defensively I was shocked--Ibaka or no Ibaka. I think that is owed to the poor showing by Western opposition this year.
What impressed me about the Warriors was not their ball movement or their three point shooting or their full court offense (these are all great).
It was their defense. It was sending the player they were guarding the right way. It was making the correct guy take the shot they wanted him to. It was individual effort on d and sharing the ball on offense. They play together, they score, they play at a fast pace, but mostly, they defend.
