Lineup for game 1 suggestions

Post#1 » by Steve Urkel » Mon May 2, 2016 9:56 pm

I think that the Raptors need to make some adjustments in their lineup to match up for game 1.

Heat play
PG Dragic
SG Wade
SF Johnson
PF Deng
C Whiteside

It goes without saying that starting Scola is a recipe for disaster. He's too slow to guard Deng on the perimeter and they'll exploit that matchup all game.

I suggest Raps play

PG Lowry
SG DeRozan
SF Normgod
PF Carroll
C Valanciunas

Norm could be a great matchup for Wade, I just don't trust DeRozan guarding him and Powell could at least slow him down given the way he played George. A big key to this series is how they get to Whiteside and if they can keep Whiteside in foul trouble it could hurt them, their front court depth is horrendous with McRoberts, Haslem and Amare. That's why I actually like the idea of DeRozan and Lowry constantly attacking the rim and hopefully they give the ball to Valanciunas more to further the pressure on Whiteside, he bites on a lot of fakes and looks to block every shot (for better or for worse). Carroll just makes sense to guard Deng and it will keep Patterson with the second unit where he excels.

What do you guys think?

I agree but Casey is bad and wont make any changes.

That means DeMar will be guarding Joe Johnson again.. I don't know if I can watch that again

Why did we bring James Johnson here?

Patterson can guard Deng and give us a rebounding advantage on both ends. That frees Carroll to guard Wade.

The best match-up would probably be

Lowry
Powell
Carrol
Pat
Val

Bring DD off the bench

He benched Scola, which everybody here was screaming for him to do. He sat Demar out of a 4th quarter in a game the Raps won.

I think nobody would have predicted those two things prior to the Indy series.

He benched Norman Powell with the series on the line too.

I think the OP's lineup would be best against Miami's starting 5 but I would have Carroll on Joe John and Derozan on Deng and Powell on Wade.

The benching of Scola was obvious an idiot would know to do it right way but it was not done, or not done until quite late. The benching of Powell was idiotic, and it was done quickly.

He benched Norman Powell with the series on the line too.

He did all kinds of things - the point made however was about his flexibility.

In fact, the whole idea of Casey featuring a rookie as much as he did is another thing that many figured was inconceivable.

So yeah, saying he won't make any changes goes against what he's actually shown so far.

Patterson on Deng isn't good. I hope Norm does start so he can guard D-Wade and Carroll can guard Deng.

Demar goes on JJ and Lowry on Dragic.

I was thinking that could be a possibility as well. The reality is that DeRozan is starting no matter what so it's just about putting him on the matchup that's the lesser of three evils.

I was all over starting PP against the Pacers and thought everyone wanting to push Carroll to the 4 to start was nuts. But in this matchu-up starting Powell over PP is the way to go for sure.

It makes too much sense to start Powell and have Patterson come off the bench like he's used to doing. It re-establishes our second unit, and ensures that every offensive threat that Miami possesses can be met with adequate defence.

So of course they'll put Scola back in to start...

We just need to have NormGod on Wade and Carroll on Joe Johnson the entire game - those two defensive match ups are KEY.

I don't agree with going small ball to match Miami, make them match us. We are the team with the better record and better head to head record. So before you match them by going small first you at least try to force your game on them.

JV
PP
DC
DD
KL

If Whiteside is destroying us on the boards I wouldn't be against going even bigger starting JV and Bismack, going small with the second unit when he sits.

He better get his ass out to the 3 point line and guard him bc Deng killed it last series from 3. Averaged the most points on the team and shot over 60% from deep
