Was the best player last 3 games aside from our boys. Good camp pickup.

I'm really curious if you realize your terrible logic here.

From everything I've seen, this is not just about the 905. Everything leads me to believe we will be trading Wright (or less likely, but possibly Cory) in the near future. There just isn't room for him on our roster. He is too good to be a 3rd string, and it will hurt his career if he has too much longer riding our pine. From Masais sales pitch, the rumors of teams chasing him etc. I can foresee us packaging him with Ross for a starting PF (with sully coming off the bench in a 4/5 role)

Terrible logic? C'mon now. He's 30 years old now...tail end of his prime. He's Marcelo Huertas, Juan Carlos Navarro, Pablo Prigioni and numerous other international guards that came over in their late 20s to 30s. What was their impact? Little to none. He couldn't stick in the league when he was younger and quicker and it's unlikely he will make a great impact at 30.

He's no one's saviour.

His last year in the NBA he was putting up near prime Calderon-level shooting percentages (FG%, 3P%, and FT%) at the age of 23 in his largest role to date with ~20 min/game. And did it for two of the worst teams in the league (the 09-10 Sac Kings and 09-10 Knicks)

If he's improved his game, with similar percentages and passing stats, he's gonna be a great find.

I doubt it, this looks like a two-deal for the 905. FVV gets a training camp shot, some guaranteed money to top up salary, and when he's waived, he goes to the 905. The D-League salaries are pathetic, but the Raptors guarantee him some money to make a decent compensation package in total.

what would be the point of that? Its not like we'd have his rights. He could still play for any NBA franchise despite playing for the 905ers.

To be fair, we had about 18 guys on our roster all the way through training camp last year. This signing isn't much different imo.

From what I've seen so far in Summer League, his ball handling has a LONG way to go.

He's a very good back up PG. His size is a bit of an issue, but he has all the tools. If he was 6'4" he would have been a late first rounder.

He's a great passer, plays good defense, high IQ kinda guy.

He's a nice find, for nothing.

Does anyone else think he looks like a cross between CoJo and Drake?

Drew Crawford looks like Drake.

Van Vleet looks like Marcus Williams from his Nets days.

I don't see Masai trading Wright for a quick fix PF. He might not go for a quick fix PF at all barring we give up very little or receive an extra draft pick. I don't see huge benefits in trading assets for a Gibson/Faried type.

I'm not sure if he'd go for any young, unproven PF given that we already have Poeltl and Siakam.

I don't see any young, proven PF's available unless you count Nerlen as a PF.

Most higher end role players or established all-star PFs are already settled in with their new/old teams.

So I really don't know what's left.

Ah, very smart move, get him some cash so 905 is worth it. I guess that's a good workaround for now for those bad salaries.

Maybe he makes a trade but it's nothing to do with VanVleet. He will be cut, he will not be on the roster, but he'll get enough money from the partial guarantee to motivate him to play for peanuts in the d-league. He's not an NBA caliber athlete, but a really good college player who can run a d-league offense.

This is merely a transaction to essentially bribe him to join 905. They did same thing with Ronald Roberts last year.

Don't read anything into this move.
