I'm assuming it has something to do with scheduling i.e. New Orleans is the only arena in the surrounding area that doesn't have anything going on during All-Star Weekend.

Charlotte won't give a crap - They don't care about basketball anyways.

Thought it was because of some LGBT bill?

I know they wouldn't do it but Toronto again would be epic.

I mean picking New Orleans as the replacement venue vs Atlanta or Miami or Orlando.

Maybe the NBA will move all teams to Canada when Trump gets elected?

They could have it in Toronto again. We'd be down.

So reading some more, Charlotte is kinda getting screwed. The City of Charlotte passed a bill protecting transgender bathroom rights and the state responded by creating the controversial bill.

Adam Silver's bad judgement and the NBA and it's political correctness. Sad!

If they feel so strongly about this issue that they need to boycott, then stop selling NBA merchandise in Charlotte. Move the NBA franchise to another city. Stop taking the fans money.
This is basically like saying "I hate the slave trade, so I'm not going to condone slavery by hosting my party in the presence of slave traders, but I'll still be happy to make money off of the plantation we own there".
Hypocrisy.

The screw job includes major businesses cancelling hiring in the area:

The canceled business expansions and events are listed below.
On Tuesday, Deutsche Bank announced it was canceling a planned expansion of its operations in Cary, which is near Raleigh, the state capital. The expansion would have added 250 jobs; 900 people are already employed at the Cary facility.
Last week, PayPal announced it canceled plans to open a new global payment center in Charlotte, which was expected to bring 400 new jobs to the city.
Thirteen planned conventions and events in Charlotte have been canceled in response to the state's anti-LGBT bill. And 29 more groups are on a “hesitant/concerned list,” reports The Charlotte Observer.
The New York Times notes that the state could lose billions of dollars in federal funding for schools, highways, and housing.
Eight cities and four states have banned publicly funded employee travel to the state.
Lionsgate canceled an eight-day production shoot in response to the bill.
The Tony-award winning Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz and his collaborators halted all productions of Wicked in the state in protest.

The point is to send a message, not to remove basketball all together from Charlotte. Again, not comparable things. Sending a message to politicians vs. taking basketball away from fans...you can't be serious about equating those things.
Your slave example also makes no sense. The NBA isn't making money off of discrimination.
