SOTD: Get to know CJ Miles
Will add more. First, some fun facts:
CJ'a basketball reference page.
He recently turned 30 so he's the same age as Carroll was.
Miles ranked fourth in 3-point percentage among players who made at least 400 attempts from long range, two spots higher than Steph Curry.
Miles had a TS% of 59.2, the same as Klay Thompson.
Miles is ranked as the 25th SF via Real +/- but is more offensive than defensive.
Beyond making over 40.0 percent of his 3-point attempts, he ranked in the 97.9 percentile in spot-up shooting with an average of 1.34 points per possession. That put him ahead of a number of sharpshooters such as Stephen Curry (1.33), Kevin Durant (1.26 PPP), Kawhi Leonard (1.24 PPP) and Klay Thompson (1.17). It made up for 32.8 percent of his offense in total and Miles finished in the top 20 in points scored out of spot-up opportunities on the season.
The bulk of those points came in a catch-and-shoot setting. Miles once again was at the top of the pack in that regard, converting 42.6 percent of his catch-and-shoot attempts from the perimeter to score 484 points in total. He will make people pay for doubling Derozan or Lowry.
Those 3-pointers weren’t all wide open either. 125 of his 163 made 3-pointers on the season were open or wide open, according to NBA.com, but Miles knocked down 34 3-pointers within 2-4 feet of a defender at a decent 34.4 percent clip.
Myles spent more time guarding SFs than SGs last year and even spent 9% of his time guarding some PFs.

On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

Re: SOTD: Get to know CJ Miles
Somewhat one dimensional and has around the same value as CoJo, but is a better fit offensively and position-wise. Our defense may be a problem with Lowry and Ibaka regressing and if JV is still here. Our young guys will need to step it up if given minutes.

Re: SOTD: Get to know CJ Miles
Defense:
http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/101139/defense-dash/
-2.7% overall which is nice but +2.1% on opponent 3FG%
Hustle stats:
http://stats.nba.com/players/hustle/#!?sort=CONTESTED_SHOTS&dir=1&Season=2016-17&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&PerMode=Per36&CF=G*G*41
Honestly, his hustle stats aren't very good at all, doesn't get a lot of deflections or charges, contests 7.9 shots per 36min (which is on page 5/7), very few screen assists
On/Off last year:
http://stats.nba.com/team/#!/1610612754/onoffcourt-advanced/?sort=OFF_RATING&dir=1
With him in the game, Indy was +1.3 oRTG and +0.5 dRTG better, good for a +1.8 diff.

I like the addition. Fair value for CoJo. Looking forward to seeing Powell and Wright getting more minutes next season.

Now we just need DeMar to be able to find CJ coming off screens for 3s. That alone will change our offense a lot.

Re: SOTD: Get to know CJ Miles
His lacklustre playoff record is a cause for concern. However, I expect him to average along with the lines of 10/3/2/45%FG/40%3FG/25 minutes per game during the regular season. During the playoffs, I would go right back to Norm as the starting SF.

Re: SOTD: Get to know CJ Miles
He also shot 37% and 35% from 3 the previous two seasons. He's inconsistent, so him hitting 40% again isn't automatic.
Those aren't terrible numbers, but considering he doesn't provide value anywhere else, they aren't great either.

I'm happy as he'll. we went from broke knees carroll to CJ. I'll take that any day of the week. when you look at what carroll was giving us I think we could have gotten the same thing from a euro scrub.

What's funny is that I had lunch with Terrence Ross' agent yesterday. We talked about every possible scenario. Toronto never came up.

He's a catch and shoot player so we definetly need to move the ball next season. Can't have a stagnant offence.

Re: SOTD: Get to know CJ Miles
When with our starters, we'll have Ibaka, Lowry and Miles ready to punish teams from outside when they double DD. That will be a big change if utilized correctly. It opens up the floor that much more, and makes for better ISO plays (I think). Maybe it also helps Val (Or whoever we have as a center) have more room to operate in the paint.

According to Synergy Sports: CJ Miles finished 2nd in the NBA in spot up scoring efficiency last season with an eFG% of 68% behind Kyle Korver's gaudy 79% mark.

And he is 30, I'm scared Casey will start and overplay him now that Carroll and Cojo are gone.
