Malachi ain't it...

Post#1 » by Duffman100 » Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:49 pm

I'm now 100% with Walt. Let's see what Dowtin can do because we have a large enough sample size to show that Flynn just ain't it.

His shooting numbers are regressing to his career norms. He's an absolute turnstile on defense. He was given 21 mpg in December and showed us exactly what type of player he is.

I'm not even sure I see an NBA contract in his future. Maybe a summer league or training camp invite.

What are some quality back-up PGs that will be free agents in the upcoming offseason?

We need to start addressing our depth for next season. This isn't sustainable.

Makes you wonder why he was in there in the first place. Please ship him anywhere at the deadline.

I'm not sure there are any quality PGs available in FA but there should be a few available via trade.

I love Flynn right now because we need to tank but going forward as prospect, I don't think he has a role on this team. Thankfully, we aren't trying (or shouldn't be trying) to win at the moment but if we have the chance to grab a better prospect in the draft, we should definitely consider it.

Thankfully, if we want to tank it will take a FVV trade and a mandate to Nurse that Malachi plays 36mpg.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I'm sure Malachi will have complaints about how he was used/developed, but player with NBA-level talent find a way to shine through. If Flynn has an NBA career, it's likely at the deep end of a bench. His game is better suited for overseas. He should be moved at this deadline for a future second (if someone is willing to offer it), or as salary in a bigger move.

Conversely, Dowtin always seems to find a way to be effective when he hits the floor. I think his on-ball defense is at the NBA level, and that's a useful skill to have at the end of a bench. I'd like to see more in a sustained run of play.

This is why i can't agree with people who blame Nurse for not using the bench. He is paid to win games and the bench has shown time and time again that most of them are not NBA players.

I know Dalano's been dealing with some injuries lately, but he should get another shot in the rotation. He's improved his shooting from last year, his FG% is up (42% from 41%), his 3pt% is up (30% from 25%), his FT% is way up (82% from 59%). His stl/blk rate is very good. He actually performs in the g league when he goes down there.

T.J. McConnell sent him to Europe already. Nurse did not build on his winning-rookie-of-Month as rookie, in his 2nd season.

I just assumed he was being Showcased which is why he played last night.

So yall were still debating on whether Flynn was “it” or not ? Terrence Davis had “It” potential, this dude was a poor mans Greivas Vasquez from the start..

He played like he didn't care anymore and shot it with confidence lol I always think whenever he plays he's to showcase him for a potential trade.

At this point I would take CoJo back, we haven't had this lack of PG depth since prior to Fordarone when we were carting out Milt Palacio.

Malachi isn't an NBA calibre player.

I agree, we definitely should give Dowtin a real look. He has had very little opportunity with us, but when he has, he was quite solid and good defender. I think Dowtin is being ignored by Nurse because he doesn't seem to have 3 point range.

Flynn is asked to be a microwave scorer off the bench. But he always hesitates, doesn't have the scorer mentality. Don't blame him tho, out of college he was a PnR pass first PG and defensive player of the year. Passing is there some what, but defense disappeared at NBA level

Dowtin got that dog in him, he competes hard from Rico runs. Even in the latest open gym episode Dowtin's team in 3on3 won versus Flynn. The game was getting chippy and Rico had to step in and ref the game. I have a feeling Dowtin consistently beating Flynn in practice matchups, but stuck in depth charts because of contract being a 2way player. Hoping Dowtin sticks around next year and get some burn while they trade Flynn in offseason in a package deal

Hernangomez is probably the only player on the team that I'd say is worse than Malachi. The funny thing is, Malachi's ceiling when he got drafted was FVV 2.0.

That's what I have been saying, just give him an extended chance with a couple starters at least. Let him run the offense for a while. If it works then Fred can have more rest minutes.

Against Portland, Jeff plays 2 minutes, throws a beautiful PNR lob to Koloko, and game ends. We get these tantalizing glimpses but Nick never gives him a longer chance. And he has long arms and has shown the ability to keep the ball in front of him.

The only, only thing Flynn does better is shoot threes, and he did hit two last night. But overall he has trouble scoring and gives up too much on D. Not for lack of effort either, just too small
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.
