Re: Shams: Raps sign Jalen Mcdaniels 2 years/$9.3M
I thought he improved his previous year and played some okay minutes with Philly. They wanted to bring him back on a partial deal which would have been fair, but Toronto likes to come in with fully guaranteed two year deals (see Dennis Schroeder/OPJ/McDaniels). The guy jumped at something that he was never offered before.
Dennis did the same and now we are likely stuck with both next season.
After this season, no one will want to sign here unless Darko actually plays the young guys regular minutes. Nwora, Dick, McDaniels all have had zero role consistency. Even weirdly bringing in Thad after not playing him most of the season was such a Darko thing to do. Having guys be selfish and play bad basketball in a 38 point blowout is just in keeping with how Darko values these players.

He's a bust. But salary is only around $4M so its not a major problem for the team given all the expiring contracts. Move on quickly.

6.8M for Birch also not a major problem. But when a lot of these small problems add up to the luxury tax line, it's a major problem

We're not in that financial situation though currently. Teams in rebuild typically have cap space and these small contracts aren't a hindrance.

None of which are detrimental to the team's capspace or roster flexibility.
Are people expecting on low key, low contract signings to be a homerun? I mean there's a reason why said players received a very insignificant offer in the first place.

Who said anything about a home run? How about hitting a **** single instead of striking out on every single signing? How about getting one signing right, like for example signing Hartenstein in free agency instead of trading a lotto pick for Poetl?

Shroder. We haven't traded a lotto pick for Poeltl.

No need for such pedantry; unless we make the playoffs or finish bottom six the next 3 years it's a lotto pick.

I actually think he's trying to get waived? He clearly hates playing ball. I don't blame him for hustling us for the $9M but let's just cut our losses and get rid of him. Let him have his money aand do whatever it is he wants to do. I bet he doesn't even watch his brother play in his spare time.
This kinda karma is what happens when you sign a sexual offender. Dude was recording sexual videos of unsuspecting girls in high school and distributing them. Smh
Woah! Did not know that. Can't believe this could get worse
Yeah, I had no idea either and just finished reading some articles from 2018. Does anyone know what ended up coming of that lawsuit?

I'll give you Schroeder as our one decent UFA signing in the last half decade or so, but what is it that you think they dealt for Poetl if not an almost certain lotto pick?
If the season were to end right now, the most likely scenario is that we've traded the 7th overall (30% chance) or the 8th overall (21%) for Poetl.

Schroeder was a good signing at the price and for a short-term deal. As for signing guys, well, it's a free market and you sign the guys willing to sign with you.
guys like DiVicenzo and Hartenstein were available for next to nothing over the years and would've been nice bench guys to compliment our old core. Those type of guys would've been willing sign here.

Ya it's these constant misses as to why this team has had 0 depth since 2020.
Although i will give credit because Schroder could this teams best singing ever, which is sad in itself lol.

I agree with everything you said except Thad. We got Porter, had Siakam and OG for paint. Latter 2 got traded. Porter got injured. Whom do you think should have seen the court other than Thad? Boucher I'm pretty sure is gone. He does not fit our timeline anymore.

Hartenstein was available, but not sure about DiVincenzo. He took minimum to specifically play for GSW and then took the MLE with NYK. It is really important to get a solid guy with the MLE, though. Before Schroder, the Raps spent a couple years wasting it by spreading it out among lesser guys that amounted to nothing (Baynes, Birch, OPJ).

Dennis has been one of the best signing so far relative to their contract and he has trade value.
Also, Porter looks interesting as a potential bench / depth piece.
As far as Raptors free agent signings go, this seasons been okay.
