Even if it does come from a credible source, who knows how many picks they actually wanted. I highly doubt they were trying to just "dump" Turner because Sabonis was on the team.

If Turner was ever going to Toronto then OG or Siakam would be the return Indy expected. It just would never happen with Masai until this year when hope was lost.

For what it's worth, Turner is a mediocre player. He usually gets eaten alive by star bigs like Embiid and Jokic. He has only looked really good this year and even then I don't know if he is a playoff star.

Turner in a vacuum, yes, is a mediocre high end role player. he's more of a system player but he does solve a problem in a siakam/barnes team with spacing.

The Raptors were/are also missing an entire bench as well.

At the moment of Poetl trade, it was clear the we needed a defensive center. We had Barnes, OG, and even Siakam playing in a CE position.

We were not thinking about spacing really, but we needed desperately rim defense.

it was either that way or the current way.

everyone knew a 3+D center was the key to the operation - it would have worked with FVV and Siakam as well. and Scottie and Siakam. Poeltl helped a little on defense but offensively, this team had shooting and spacing issues.

Masai kinda went all in but not really. so he kinda **** it up for himself for being a cheap ass with the draft picks.

Well first off, its some people talking out of two sides of their mouth in 2 threads at the same time, and in the past, but secondly, there is no way Turner helps this team from being equally as bad, or it still has problems but they are only slightyl better and the problems are magnfied without 2 picks.

Poeltl was never the solution in my opinion, and didn't like it at the time, because it was Poeltl. But turner doesn't move the needle enough or fit for a number of reasons.

In that thread at the time, I was ready to move 2 first round pick for Myles as the last piece of the puzzle, but then again we would probably still be hearing "development", "development", wait Darko "you got 3 DPOY-type players in your starting lineup and you cant stop anybody"..Darko: "development", "development"

SG OG
SF Barnes

Look, there are many things wrong with the Raptors.

Turner helps or the idea of Turner helps. It would have helped with floor spacing and rim protection, at the very least.

we can argue about "moving the needle" and "fit" to every degree but we won't know for certain unless he actually played for the team.

Poeltl made it worse - but the short term bump of some better defense seemed like it was great for some.

Is this just an excuse for his horrible play here?

Worried Raps won't pick up his option, and teams won't offer him much.

I get that Brown didnt play great for us but there were many contending teams after him on his 23M a year contract. The only way we decline his option is if we re-sign him to a multi year deal. Letting him go for nothing is not an option.

Worst case, we pick up his option and then look to trade him to the same teams that wanted him this past deadline. He's already proven to be a big part of a championship team, contenders will go after him again 100%.

I'm going to have to assume they didn't shut him down after the trade deadline because the injury isn't one that can be worsened by playing through it.

Otherwise they should have just shut him down after the deadline.
Tre Mann should have been a Top 10 Pick in the 2021 Draft

You just wait until the draft lottery where we have less than a 50% chance to even keep our own draft pick lol.

And yet, Masai couldn't find a single trade partner? Contenders may want him, but if they aren't willing to pay the absurd asking price of a FRP that Masai was reportedly looking for, let him walk. The knee injury sounds like BS, dude didn't/doesn't want to be here, you can see by his body language, so holding onto him another year if we can't find a partner is just a waste of money.

Grass is always greener on the other side. The weakest people are often people who blames others for their failures and don't provide real solutions. Pointing out problems like we need affordable flying cars doesn't make you smart.
