I think if we are going into a "real" rebuild and not a sped up retool, you go for the big swing, high risk/reward player. If we go the retool route, you kinda have to go for the safe pick.

That's really the problem, if what they're putting out there is real. There is no real "big swing to be had" in most of this draft. You're "swinging" for a role player.

One thing that caught me off-guard was when they started with pick 1 and said "there is no tier 1 or tier 2 prospect here. There is 6-7 guys at the top and who you pick depends on what you need and how much you like them". Then it just keeps getting worse.

Yeah, this is why I was completely fine with conveying this year, so long as we went full tank next year to get a pick in a draft that isn't primarily role players.

We doubled down on a year with a generational talent in Wemby and traded a pick in a mediocre draft, only to fail and tank in the year of the mediocre draft. Everything is being done ass backwards. This is why I'm so critical of the FO, everyone is zigging and we are zagging, and it's not because we are smarter and have some 200IQ, 4D checkers plan in place. We just overestimated the ability of our team, and now we're eating dirt.

The OG trade was not a bad trade at all, but IQ/RJ are too good of players to add to a team with Scottie and have any hopes of bottoming out low enough the next year to get a good pick in a draft with a potential superstar like Flagg. I really hope I'm wrong, but this looks like being setup for a fair amount of treadmill years if we stay the course.

Stuff like this naturally changes if we trade Jak, and run a lineup of BBQ+Gradey next year, but even then, I don't think that makes us bottom 3-5 bad.

That's unfortunate. He was playing so well in recent weeks.

Last 6 games:
11ppg
6rpg
2apg
1.3spg
Shooting 45% from the field.

in 31mpg

All that on top of really good defense.
He's gonna be fun to watch next season with fully healthy team. He's excellent at cutting to the baskets and Scottie will be able to rack up some easy dimes.

I would love if Ochai can be the Raps version of NAW on the Wolves. NAW is an elite wing defender off the bench which Ochai can be. He's also 6'5 like NAW.

He does have to be at least an average 3 point shooter to stay on the court.

You have a better chance of getting Bruce Brown to buy in to his role than Ochai developing into that guy.

Do you have any clue what kind of player NAW was in year 1 and 2 in the NBA?

NAW had a 49TS% in his first 3 years as a Pelican. Agbaji has a 53TS% currently through 2 years.

Like honestly - watch some games and do a minimal amount of research
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Rrrrrrrrrright. Because the only thing that seperates NAW from Ochai is TS%

Dont worry though you will conveniently forget about the silly projection when the Ochai experiment crash and burn  get a clue

You've yet to give the guy reasonable time and you're jumping to conclusions already. lol

Writing a 23 year old after 27 games is a weird flex.

Such a weird flex. The sophomore slump is a real thing. At least give him year 3 to see if he can bounce back to his rookie fg%, 3pt% etc.

You'd think people would learn to be patient after seeing Scottie struggle in his second year or a more recent example in Gradey...

What flex? The initial post was about how we could use Ochai as that 6"3ish guy who could guard other smaller guards in the league while posting average shooting numbers and bring some intangibles.
My reply was about how we already have that guy in Bruce Brown. Who has shown to be capable of playing some tough nose disruptive defense while being respectable on offense in denver. It would be more immediate to plug BB into that role than wishing Ochai become a Bruce Brown.

Then some smart-ass comes in and wants to flaunt that he has access to basketballreference.com about TS% and talk some rude ass ****. We see how the conversation is always steer hostility from these specific posters.

It's more telling that Utah gave up on this player so quickly.

No Immanuel.

Quite a few teams gave up on NAW. There was one point in Utah where the guy was barely playing and I thought the guy was going to be out of the league. Glad to see him have a role on a great team.

Ainge has given up on a lot of players too soon.

Yeah, they did. Utah was also competing and making the playoffs then when NAW was there.

Ochai wasn't doing much on a rebuilding squad. Either way, not holding out that he will do anything significant with the Raptors. If he does, great. If not, it's really no loss at all.

Return to Toronto Raptors
