Although I'm not sure the league has to do anything. What NBA team would ever give him a contract going forward? What players would want to play with him, would pass the ball to him?

This isn't some minor infraction, like beating your gf within an inch of her life, or pushing her downstairs, or raping a woman. And then paying them to shut up.

That's quite a comparison. I would compare it to a known traitor fighting in your platoon. Would you ever turn your back to him?

100%, first thing I thought of as well. Silver is a labour lawyer by trade IIRC. He doesn't speak off the cuff. Porter is done.

Employers would make employees go through a lesson on professional ethics on first day on the job and usually once a year after that.

I wonder does NBA makes its players (at least 1st year) take a professional ethics course

Porter is the perfect person for them to ban and scare off others. He's an insignificant player and someone who the NBA doesn't care about. If this was about a star player you probably would've even hear about it

The new NBA is heavily promoting and profiting from one of the most harmful money making games next to dealing drugs. And they real have no choice but to ban the guy.

Even if the evidence is loose, the money in play is far to large, and the optics of keeping as many people believing there is enough integrity to gamble is the only thing that matters. There really is no middle ground when playing with peoples money who are already playing against the odds.

Both the NBA and Sportsbooks are likely salivating for this moment to take stance and look tough.

He is not banned yet. The investigation is still going on- I think. He average .38%FG this season, likely his last contract anyways. Prison or a large fine is better for selling out his organization and his team. Perma-ban doesnt stop G-league scrubs on their way out from betting.

Yeah, it's a bad analogy because the NBA wouldn't ban a player for any of those things.

Silver is a clown if he bans Porter but not the crooked refs.

Porter will take the fall for the stars and refs. Same with PED and drug suspensions we see.
For lease.

Sucks because I actually liked his game. He could have easily been our 3rd C next year and move up the depth charts based on his development. Between him and Koloko, horrible luck for a team desperate for talent at the C spot.

If he gets a lifetime ban it means the reflective heat from damage control is just too much for Captain Silver. A one year ban torches his nba career no matter what anyway. Anything beyond that is optics. So we have had the Dolan litigation we hear nothing about and now Jontaygate who let's honest, if he secured himeself a hefty amount welcome to America while working remotely in Canada. Careers are made of moves like that. If you ask permission from head office to do the hustle they are gonna say you are their asset not the other way around. This league deserves this scandal.

Just like the PG is an extension of the coach

Refs are an extension of the sportsbooks.

Anyone know if Europe basketball has rules banning sports betting? I'm trying to see if Jontay can move to Europe to make money playing ball after getting banned from the NBA

the NBA should also be looking at referees way more closely imo. too much shady stuff goes on with those guys game in and game out.

You're assuming the NBA doesn't want the refs to do shady things
