I think we're now in the Carter/McCain Missi/Ware Murphy/De Silva range

We're probably drafted Terrence Shannon Jr.

Masai doesn't do any background checks, he doesn't care about off-court issues.

McDaniels and Kurucs are a couple recent examples.

Nets’ wing Rodions Kurucs has been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend. According to the charges, Kurucs choked his girlfriend on the night of June 27th in his Brooklyn apartment during an argument.

Kurucs, 21, was charged with “obstructing the woman’s breathing.” He also, allegedly, slapped his girlfriend in the face twice, bit her lip and forcefully tossed her on the bed, hurting her ribs. Under New York state law, the charge is a misdemeanor.

From the Daily News which first broke news of the arrest.

Kurucs played for our Summer League team; I doubt Masai cares about the bench fillers for a summer tournament. Teams only care about their core young prospects during SL, the rest are just to do agents a favor or to ‘test drive’ scrubs.

Oof! Drafting 19 sucks. There's a definite drop off in quality after around 16.

McCain isn't anything special. He reminds me of Eric Gordon and that type of player is going to get phased out of the NBA. The best bet we have in this range is a young player with one transferrable skill and a good physical or athletic trait.

My hot take is if we keep 6 or in that range and draft Dalton Knecht, I think he will win Rookie of the Year. He could start for Toronto because physically he is ready to play NBA minutes and we are not going to be too harsh on defensive mistakes (he needs to improve there but physically I don't see large red flags).

In less of a primary role he can still be a floor spacer and attack closeouts and do it efficiently. I don't see why he couldn't score close to 20 PPG if given starter minutes. Obviously his usage will drop off, but he going to be a favorite outlet for Barnes and Barrett on kick outs.

He basically went from unknown to nearly leading the SEC in scoring and being a Naismith winner. That was in his first year with a team. I mentioned it in a long post before, but if anyone projects as the next Jalen Williams (upper classmen who becomes a star), it is Knecht. His combo of physicality and scoring is pretty rare given his FTR, dunks and threes.

TBF, a lot of those mocks are because Det is going 1 and they feel they don't need another C/PF

Sarr is definitely the consensus #1 prospect in this draft

If he was the consensus #1 pick then team fit wouldn't matter. You think if Detroit was picking first last year the mocks have them passing on Wemby because they already have Duren?

Consensus #1 doesn't = generational talent. Just means he's perceived as the best prospect from the masses. Now if you don't feel he's a generational talent, then fit should come into play...

So Raps have 19 and 31, and potentially their own pick if it doesn't convey?

Yep. Our pick can be 6, 4, 3, 2, or 1 and we will keep it. If it's 7, 8, 9, or 10 we will convey it to the Spurs.

I don’t know about Knecht as a top 6 pick but he would a nice get if we somehow move up top to early teens I think.

While the #16 pick would be better than the #19, that's only 3 players who might be on your list that you could miss out on and could be as few as none if the teams drafting ahead of you select players like Jalen Hood Schifino (#17 to LA Lakers) or Kobe Bufkin (#15 to Atlanta) ahead of Jamie Jacquez Jr (#18 to Miami), Brandin Podziemski (#19 to GSW) and the free-falling Cam Whitmore (#20 to Houston) who was mocked as high as #6 just days before the 2023 draft.

Bingo

But he isn't perceived as such. The first pick of the draft isn't going to be picked according to team need if the front office is competent. The Pistons aren't in a position where they can say "Well we believe Sarr to be the best and most talented prospect but he doesn't fit our team because we already have Jalen Duren." Like what?. There is no consensus first overall pick this year. Sarr may be favored, but he is far from the consensus. Maybe you guys just don't know what "consensus" means.

Yeah I’m not deep on the draft either but all the mocks I listen to pick based on fit and need after the first 8-10 picks.

Other than Sarr, who else has the potential to be selected #1 overall?

Most recently there was a 3-way split between Paolo Banchero, Jabari Smith Jr and Chet Holgrem for the #1 pick by the Magic.

Are there even 2 other prospects being seriously considered alongside Alex Sarr in this draft? If so, who is being considered and who is suggesting they should be considered along with Sarr for the #1 pick?
