Hughes would look great in Toronto

Post#1 » by hoopsaddict » Wed Dec 17, 2008 2:42 pm

I was watching the Bulls-Hornets game last night and I kept drooling over the idea of adding Larry Hughes to the Raptors. He could add some scoring from the SG position while also being the perimeter defender that we're looking for.

He's making around $12 million per season over the next two, surely we could package some deals to make this happen. With Ben Gordon, Hinrich and Rose the Bulls already have their backcourt. Through Thabo and Nooch into the mix and Hughes seems to become redundent in their backcourt.

Does anyone else think this is a good fit? What would we have to give up to make this happen?

no he wouldn't. this guy is more injury prone than maggette and his effort and shot are inconsistent.

I wouldn't say tank mode for the Raps, this could be a move that helps them this season. Don't you agree? I think Hughes is a more athletic version of AP and would be a better option than AP or Kapono.

But you're right, it is yet another expiring deal for the summer of 2010. With Hughes and JO we'd have nearly $35 million in cap room. Cha-ching!

Hughes has been playing so well that it is doubtful that the Bulls are looking to trade him now. He'd be worth much more in off-season, since he would then be an expiring deal. Bulls are expected to lose Gordon to free agency.

Instead of trading Hughes, Bulls seem to be leaning toward trading Nocioni & Thabo instead. Thabo has been DNP-CD for at least the last 6 games.

Hughes' only injury since joining Bulls was a separated shoulder diving for a ball in PRE-SEASON. Who plays that hard in pre-season?

That is nothing like Maggette, who is constantly pulling hamstrings & other such injuries.

Hughes' shot is inconsistant - but the injury label is not true, at least not recently

Sorry guys, not sure about what Hendrix said and I can't vouch for his injury history. All I was basing this on was his great stats in Washington when given big minutes and the fact he's playing like that again so far this season.

Plus, it's the Bulls... if we threw a draft pick their way they'd jump at the deal. ha!

Raps need a defensive SG but Hughues seems like an expensive option

realistic deal Hughues and Sefolosha for Parker, Graham and Kapono

So we replace Parker with Hugues and have gotten rid of our best 3 pt shooter.

how much better is that team?

If your interested in "meh" package for a bit for cap flexibility this offseason... we can work something out. Not much would be coming back, and since he has played relatively well recently, it wont be happening.

On 2nd though.. we cant do it... it will be another 3 for 1 package.... no player flexibility, unless Chi-Town has has some cheap deals to send back

Chicago has 4 cheap expiring deals: Simmons at $1.7 million (rookie deal) and 3 guys on minimum (Ruffin, Hunter, Gray). Bulls probably plan to bring Gray back & they signed Hunter just to work with Rose. Simmons & Ruffin would be most likely to be dealt.

Thabo is making $1.9 million on his rookie deal, but there is one year left.

Ideally IF (thats a bif if) were gonna do something, Chicago will have to be comfortable with the usual suspects Parker/Graham (expiring) + Kapono for Hughes + a low salary player on the books for 2009 (ideally wing)

I dont think Chicago will be gushing with joy over these players coming back, and u'd only do it if u valuable more room this offseason capwise... and think Kapono is ok i guess

Sadly thats all we can do...

He can only be traded with his consent - and he will not give it since he would lose Bird Rights.
Ben wants a monster contract next year & Raptors dont have space to sign him outright

Larry Hughes' TS%, career: .488.
Larry Hughes' TS%, best season ('04/'05): .523.
Larry Hughes' TS%, this season: .549.

Either he has suddenly discovered how to shoot at age 30, after almost 20000 minutes played in the league, or his most recent 400-odd minutes in the league represent an outlier. Tough call, that.

He'd be a good fit but to match salaries I think we'd give up more than he's worth
